CHAPTER TWO

You know that moment when you’re watching a movie and an unbelievable scene comes on and by the end of it; you’re sitting there with a “Eh? What on earth just happened?” look on your face so you rewind back and watch it all over again?

Yeah, I was doing just that except this wasn’t exactly a movie and all the rewinding was being done in my head, which has currently gone on its tenth rewind. It was that bad.

I just seriously couldn’t believe it. Me look after four teenaged-grown boys? No, that’s not going to happen. I’m not going to let it happen. No way in hell. Heck, I can’t even look after myself and I’m Seventeen.

Okay, I’m kidding about that last part, but let’s just say, I’m not exactly the best person to look after people over the age of six, and so that’s why I thought this job was just perfect for me because I thought the ‘Harrison Boys’ were little boys and not...grown ones.

And, aren’t they already old enough to look after themselves?

“Amelia? Amelia? Are you alright?”

The warmth of a hand touched my cold bare arm pulled me out of my bundled thoughts and I looked up to see who it was.

I let out a strained laugh. “Oh yeah, I’m – I’m completely fine,” I lied slightly emphasizing on ‘completely’ in a somewhat mock happy tone, and then suddenly choked uncontrollably on my spit. Yeah, that happens to me all the time. It sucks, but I guess in this current situation, it’s kind of understandable.

I mean, who wouldn’t be shocked to find out the people they’re looking after are not little children but full grown teenagers?

Oh right, I’m the only person who’s had this happened to them! And that’s a fact!

Slapping my chest a couple of times, the coughs came to a stop and I lifted my head up, taking a deep breath in, another lie about to flow out. “Sorry about that, I had something terrible stuck in my throat,” And gave her my most assured smile I was able to muster up.

Wilmer stared at me longer than usual with uncertainness and worry but seemed to let it pass as she smiled and nodded at me.

“Well, why don’t we all go inside and get ourselves out of the heat,” she said and then gestured me to go to her when I didn’t move a muscle. “Come on Amelia, let’s get going.”

I snapped out of my daze, nodded and quickly went up to her passing the boys along the way. And as I passed them, I could feel their stares at the side of my face and I couldn’t shake off the shivers that ran down my spine.

No, don’t stare at me like that, I protested in at the back of my mind.

Finally reaching to where Wilmer was standing, she gave me another smile before she walked herself up the path leading towards the large black front doors of the mansion-like house and all I did was follow her in silence. I could hear multiple sounds of footsteps and quiet mutters behind me and I suddenly felt so conscious of myself.

Did I mention I hate it when people walk behind me? It’s like they’re staring at my moving butt as I walk and that’s something I’m definitely not comfortable with, ever.

Oh look at you, strutting your big ass up this walkway. Shake that booty girl, shake it. My mind joked, clearly laughing at my uncomfortableness, and I immediately scowled at it. Seriously, what kind of mind do I have?

A few minutes passed and we were finally inside the house. We were sitting on the luxurious black couches in a large spaced room, probably known as the living room, while we waited for Wilmer’s return with some light refreshments. While she was gone, she thought it would be such a great time to let us talk and get to know one another.
