CHAPTER 1

90 5 4

I was sitting in the boot of my mate, Connor's car. Abby was sitting next to me though I wouldn't say she was 'sitting', Abby's golden locks spring up and down as she shouted and bounced around, sometimes adrenalin will rush to her head.

"Drive Connor! Go, go, GO!" her hazel like eyes bulged out of their sockets.
"Come on mate, I got money on this, pick up the pace." Now Clarke had chorused in.

Clarke is Abby's boyfriend but we call him Bub because he doesn't come across as a Clarke. He's the son of a headmaster and a lawyer; he's a bit of a delinquent.

"Yeah hold on, I'm giving her all she's got," Connor yelled back over the car's engine. Connor was in a worn out maroon tank top his toned muscles prominent as he pushed hard on the steering wheel.

My head sharply turned to my left trailing a red jeep. Gabriel shook Connor's seat. "We're behind you asshole, put your back into it!"

"Hey Gabe. Shut up. Are you driving? No," Connor shot back, not taking his eyes off the road for a moment. I lent over the back seat and ruffled my hands through Gabe's wavy, chestnut hair, "give him a break aye, it's not like you ever won a race," I teased.

"Leaaa..." Gabe shot me a childish glare before realigning his hair, "I just want to smash up Jack's smug little face." The next comment he directed to the back of Connor's seat, "At least if we won this stupid race-"

"Yeah, at the moment Jack and his gang are a mile ahead of us," Bub cut Gabe's rant short.

"Well I'm sorry I can't afford a car like him, I was lucky to score this off my Pop!" Connor was obviously getting hot and frustrated.

"All of you shut up!" I shouted as I jumped out of the boot and into the back seat, "We're nearly at the finish."

We all began shouting and screaming at Connor and his snail of a car.

~The Following Day~

I arrived at Melrose High in a rush, my stupid alarm clock just decided to die on me, of course, resulting in me missing the school bus and having to sit next to this man with bad breath on the public one.

I wasn't really aware of what I was doing because as I stumbled through the gates because I was trying to do my hair. Then, I bumped into my favorite dean Ms. Renny who was most commonly referred to by students as 'Sledgehammer'. She was a lovely, old woman who never smiles. Today she was wearing a grey skirt and matching blouse, her hair pulled back in a tight bun and her thin lips were as tight as ever. "Ms. Avery, do you have any idea how late you are?" it was obviously a rhetorical question because when I tried to explain she answered the question herself. "-It has been 16 minutes since the starting bell," as she pulled out a stack of pink slips from her pockets she continued "you will go to the late room effect of immediately and will serve one hour detention this afternoon."

My jaw dropped as I snatched the stupid slip off her and walked off.

Not a lot happened after that, I hung out with Gabe, Bub, Conor and Abby, as per usual. We basically talked about how much we missed the holidays that ended less than 24 hours ago and the continuation of classes with the teaches we didn't care much for. We were all in 12th grade, about bloody time, and today was first day of the second semester of the year.

The seconds slowly ticked away until the 3 o'clock bell sung out.

Great, I just remembered, I have to serve an hour detention. FML.

"Come on, can't you just flag it," Abby begged as Bub draped his arm over her shoulders.

"Na, not unless she want's the sledge hammer to give her another detention slip," chimed Connor, I looked in Abby's direction and shrugged in agreement.
"Oh ok, see ya Lea," Gabe said.

"-And text me if you get bored!" Abby called over her shoulder as they left the grounds.

I arrive in detention and handed my slip to Mr. Thomson, the stuttering 9th grade math teacher, before taking a set near the back.

Five minutes passed "N-n-no talking or ce-cell ph-ph-ph-phones out during detention," announced Mr Thomson.

About 40 minutes into the detention I had had enough of reading the graffiti on the desk and was starting to feel cold so I turned back to see what was happening with the air-con when I saw him. He was in the back row, his feet on the desk, his tie loosened so it hung a few buttons down and his toned chest showing through the top of his unbuttoned shirt, never had a school uniform looked so good. He looked up from under his brown curls and stared straight back at me.

Oh my gosh he's hot... Wait what am I thinking?

Shit, I had obviously been staring way too long and this realization made me feel awkward, he obviously sensed this and he flashed a crooked grin in my direction. I quickly turned back and faced my desk.

That was such a girly thing I just did, I mentally told myself off.

When detention got out I slung my bag over my shoulder and paced out of the classroom, I couldn't wait to get away.

That was so embarrassing, I've never done that before-

My thoughts were cut short when a hand wrapped around my wrist, a chill was sent down my spine. I looked up only to be entranced by two beautiful, deep green eyes; he was wearing that crooked smile again. "Hey, you're the girl who was staring at me, right?"
He had the hottest British accent,

Wait, he's calling me out for staring at him, this is so embarrassing and so unlike me.

I blushed and turned my head slightly away from him, pretending to look at the hallway lockers. He quickly changed sides so we were eye to eye once again; I think I herd him laugh under his breath.

I broke the awkward eye contact and looked towards the end of the hallway. He darted in front of me, blocking my path and extended his hand,
"My name's Harry, Harry Styles."
