'Happy Birthday!' my older sister Lauren screamed standing in the middle of my door way.
'Go away, Lauren,' I murmured, curled in a ball underneath my turquoise stain bed cover. It was the first day of summer and I just wanted to stay in bed all day long. If it were possible.
'Hurry up, Reign' she encouraged, 'Sue will be leaving soon!'. Sue being like a mother to me since I was twelve. After my parents died in a horrific car crash with a drunk driver on the free-way 2 years ago.
I rolled over to the side where Lauren was standing with my long brown hair all across my face. I moved my hair off my face and looked at her standing in the doorway. Dressed like she was about to go to the Oscars. I crawled out of bed unenthusiastiy despite it been my 17th birthday.
'Ok' I said reluctantly. 'Can you please leave so I can get dressed please?' I asked sarcastically.
'I could but I don't think you will actually get dressed' she said with a sly smirk, it was as if she wanted me gone.
'Get out Lauren!' I screamed.
'Fine I will go, you have 10mins' she instructed.
' I will take as long as I want! If you have forgotten it is my birthday!' I yelled.
'Have you forgotten I am the oldest' she joked.
'I hate you!' I screamed at the top of my lungs. So even Sue could hear me. I heard a sudden scurry of footprints up the hallway.
'What is going on?' A head peaked through the door. It was Sue looking worried.
'Nothing, just a misunderstanding, that is all.' I calmly stated.
'Ok, Lauren leave Reign alone, and Reign you get dressed.' She instructed.
I nodded and Lauren walked down the hallway. I walked to my closet and grabbed some ripped skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and my favourite leather jacket. I got dressed quickly and brushed my teeth and hair. I walked down the hallway to be greeted by Sue with her bags packed for her business trip to Paris. Lauren sitting on the couch on her phone (the usual for her). A large blue car pull up outside the front door, with my friends Jamiee, Lachlan and Shawn. With Sue's car to take her to the airport pulling up not far behind it.
'Sorry I have to go.' Sue apologised.
'Do worry about' I said, 'You have commitments and I understand that.'
' Love you both' she kissed me on the forehead and walked out the door. I walked out shortly after to my friends, not saying anything to Lauren because she does not deserve to feel empowered. As I walked out the door my friends all yelled
'Happy Birthday Reign.'
I got in the car. Embarrassed because now the whole neighbourhood knew.
'Thanks. Can we go now' I asked.
'Yep' Jamiee replied.
I saw out of the corner of my eye, Lauren watching me leave. It looked like she was scared to be alone. This was kind of strange seeing her like this.
