The bell rang out, snapping me out of my thoughts. The thoughts about my parents. My life. About how I was now...all alone. I had nobody. No family, not even any fri-

"Hey Y/N, y'coming?" Sam's voice called out to me.

Everyone was already packing away their things, scurrying out of class while I was still sat here, thinking. Even Sam was up, bag slung over his shoulder, ready to leave.

"O-oh, yeah! Are we still hanging out?" I asked hesitantly, ready for him to scoff a 'no' and walk off. I wouldn't be too surprised if he did to be honest. I'm a nobody.

"Of course!" He chuckled. My eyes widened but I quickly turned away before he thought I was an idiot.

"Ok then." I chocked out, stuffing my books into my bag and standing up.

"So, uh, where do you wanna go?" I questioned awkwardly, biting my lip.

"Hmm, how about the library? I'm a book nerd so is that ok? We can go somewhere else if you wanna." Sam suggested.

"No, I'm a bookworm too so that sounds cool." I breath out a laugh. It's nice that we have something in common. Most guys prefer going to the bar instead of books. I could tell Sam wasn't a typical guy.

"So what's your major?" Sam asked happily as we sat down at one of the library's tables.

"Education, I wanna be a nursery teacher." I answered confidently. The more time I spent around Sam, I was becoming more comfortable. Usually it takes a while for me to warm up to people. My social anxiety gets the better of me I guess.

"That's cool. So I guess you're good with kids then huh?" He chuckled.

"I guess so. I used to babysit a few kids and they seemed to like me so...yeah." I breath out a laugh.

Sam smiled. "Do you have any brothers or sisters then?"

"No, I'm the only child. It gets lonely sometimes but I just surround myself with books...that must've sounded so nerdy."

"Nah, it's what I do too." He replied.

"So you're an only child too?"

Sam scoffed playfully. "Defiantly not. I've gotta brother, Dean. We were close but we...took different paths."

I was now generally interested. "What do you mean?"

"Well I came to Stanford to study law and hopefully become a lawyer while he followed in the family business." Sam's expression become somewhat pained.

I couldn't stop myself from asking. "And what's that?"

Sam snapped out of his trance. "Oh, it's uh, helps protect people. Nothing interesting."

"So like a cop or something?"

"Y-yeah, something like that."

"Well, that sounds cool." I smiled, looking at his face.

"Yeah but what about you?"

My heart beat sped up. This was a sensitive subject being as my parents just died.

"What about me?" I bit my lip.
