(////Your POV////) 9 years old

It was too much to take in....

There were bodies everywhere, some of them you recognized, some of them you didn't. You search through the dead. Honestly you couldn't say "dead"....Some were still alive by a thin wire of desperation. They look contorted and let out a hoarse cry, their voice sounding like a white flag of defeat. They probably wish they were dead. You blink tears out of your eyes and continue looking out upon the clearing of men and monsters.

Through the chaos you searched for a familiar face. Not just anyone you knew but someone you couldn't afford to lose. He told you to stay with your aunt, you knew you should of. Although, a strange urge made you jump through a lonesome window in you'r aunts washroom and head toward the battlefield. A man who looked beaten let out a horrible screech only to be cut off by a monster who dug it's razor talons in his throat. You shut your eyes tight, hoping with a heavy heart that he wasn't the man who you've been in desperate search for. Your father

You clutched the golden heart-shaped locket around your neck.

The war seemed to be going on forever. Dirt was being kicked up, mixing with the ashes of dead monsters. Blood was spattered everywhere as if the dirt clearing was a gruesome canvas. Still, there were no signs of your father. you heart started racing as you began to panic. you fell to your knees. Tears streaked down your dirt covered face creating awkward streaks. All you could do is hold your locket and lie among the fallen bodies.

Than just like that it was over.

A battle cry sounded from the men. "IT'S OVER...... THEIR KING IS DEAD." You looked up from the ground to where the general of the human army stand victorious, holding the decapitated head of the monster king. Cheers rang all around and you stood up. Already the army of men were gathering monsters and marching them off in small groups. Suddenly the war that lasted forever was ending all too fast. You slowly walked over to a group of men who were chatting while keeping a close eye on the other monsters, making sure there were no escapes. You approached them carefully.

"E-excuse me?"

All the members of the group looked down at you startled. You couldn't blame them for being in shock.

What is such a young girl doing in a field of slaughter?

"I-I'm just wondering if you seen my d-daddy...." You trailed off.

One of the men, the tallest of the group smiled awkwardly. "Uh...Sorry honey Can you describe your father?"

You nodded shyly. "He kinda looks like me and he is this tall." You stood on your toes and reached as tall as you can which wasn't that high.

The guards drew a blank. You could feel tears in the back of your eyes. Then one of the men seemed to recognize you. "Oh! you must be (L/N)'s daughter!" Suddenly his face sulked. "Sorry kid but I haven't seen him since he split from our group."

One of the guards looked at another as if he knew something. He seemed to be mentally debating if he would tell you. He looked around the clearing, then the final group of monsters being marched off. His gaze finally settled on you. "Look sweetie, don't worry or anything but your father...." He took a minute to keep calm in his voice. You were holding your breath. " Your dad was injured by a monster," When he saw your horrified expression he tripped over his words. "B-but don't worry the ambulance is making it's way around and he'll...." You didn't hear his final words you were already running in the opposite direction.

You never ran so hard in your life. You'r legs felt like collapsing but that wouldn't stop you. Tears threatened to spill and it felt as if you swallowed cotton. Your breaths were short gasps. You tripped over something and the locket around your neck flew off. A sharp pain ripped through your ankle. You looked back terrified. what you tripped over was a female corps, a thin trickle of blood ran from her mouth.

You pushed yourself away from the mutilated body. As you tried to stand you fell right back down because your left ankle was sprained and useless. You bit back tears.

"(Y-Y/N)" a raspy voice called out.

You turned around quickly, recognizing the voice. "Daddy?" Your father lie on his side there were claw marks on his armor and along his legs. blood seeped from his wounds. But he did smile. You could barley speak. "Daddy..."

So many thoughts started streaming through your head.

Claws ripping through men...

Monsters turning to ashes...

The dead woman you tripped on....

"DAD!!!" You crawled over to him. You forgot about your ankle and cringed as you moved it.

Your dad held your hand "Hey kiddo..." He coughed and blood splattered on your clothes a bit. The sun was getting low, casting long shadows on corpses. The sun's orange light reflected off your fathers armor, making him look peaceful. "I thought I told you to stay with your aunt."

"S-sorry Daddy I just thought that....." You were interrupted by your own tears. "SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!.....PLEASE!"

Your father weakly tightened his grip on your hand. "No need for that kiddo... I'll be fine." He brought his other hand to yours and gently placed something inside. You squeezed the object, it felt cold. "Remember the tune I taught you?" You nodded immediately as the soothing melody played in your head. He started humming the tune than sung the words in a raspy voice. "Just because everything is changing, doesn't mean it's never been this way before...." He looked at you, wanting you to continue the song.

"All you can do is know who your friends are as you head off into war..."

"Pick a star on the dark horizon and follow the light...."

Your father's body relaxed as he sung his last words "You'll come back when they call you...no need to say goodbye." his eyes glazed over. Tears dripped from your face and landed on his armor. You finished the song on shaky breaths.

"You'll come back when they call you....."

You opened your hands and stared at the object your father handed to you. It was the simple heart-shaped locket.

"No need to say goodbye."

The sun was gone by now. But there were no stars in the sky. Only ashes and the words you never spoke.
