"Mom! Are we there yet?" My impatient brother, Jackson asks my mom for the tenth time.
"Not yet Jackson, only fifteen more minutes though." My tired mom replies. We're on our way to Raindrop Lake for our last camping trip of the summer before school starts. It's a family tradition to go on a camping trip every year at the beginning and end of summer.
I relax in my seat, plug in earbuds to my iPod, and let the serene sound of nature fill my ears.
I only listen to the sound of nature. I've always loved the wilderness, I used to live in a beautiful log cabin with my mom and dad. Until dad passed away when I was ten. We had to leave our beautiful cabin, the forest right out in our backyard, and our lake. It was a tough time, Jackson was only two at the time, so he didn't understand. My father was everything to me. We would always go fishing on the lake, run through the forest in bare feet, and lie on the cool grass, staring out at the world above.
My favourite memories of him were when he taught me all about constellations. I've always loved the night sky since, but now that I live in an apartment with my mom and brother. I can barely see the night sky or any kind of nature. So the sounds of nature on my iPod just have to do in the city. Finally, the SUV pulls into a campground, a worn out sign reads.
Welcome to Raindrop Lake
Campgrounds:
"Never a single drop of rain here!"I look out the window and chuckle a little, it's pouring rain.
Mom hops out and brings Jackson into the main office to check in, while I go pack up my books and iPod into my tote bag.
Mom returns and drives the SUV down a winding path until we reach a small cabin right beside the lake. It was a nice little lake, but it's not the same....
I've seen many lakes with all the camping in the past summers, but they're never as blue or crystal clear as the one from home."Alright, Addii can you start bringing bags inside?" Mom asks.
"Yep." I say as I hop out of the front seat.
I haul two suitcases out of the trunk up to the front door of the cabin as mom hands my the key to open the cabin. We dropped our luggage at the front of the door and shut the door; leaving all the rain and storms outside.
