Chapter 2

It's been three weeks and all the tension between Phoenix and I has finally died down. It was hard at first because he still stood up for Katie and Pauline. My heart and mind don't think alike and I'll bet that one day it will get me in trouble.

Anyways it's my birthday in 1 week. Everything's sorted so all I have to do is wait.

My dress is a red maxi dress that hugs my curves in all the right places. I have matching red pumps to go with them as well. I don't usually go for the colour red but I thought it would make me stand out.

I'm getting ready to go to Phoenix's football match that starts in 20 minutes. I'm waiting for Claire to pick me up. She's late as usual.

I hear the sound of a car horn and I immediately know its Claire. I head out to her Mitsubishi lancer where she is consecutively beeping the horn.

"Okay, okay I get it. It's not my fault someone's late" I say sitting in the passenger seat.

"That means a special someone had to hurry up!" Claire replies dramatically.

I roll my eyes at her. "Just drive or we'll be even more late".

The roar of the crowds are deafening. I feel like my ears are about to burst. Damn the crowd.

Can't they shut up for 5 minutes" Claire tells over the crowd.

"I wish" I yell back at her. Every football match is like this. I wonder how people don't get tired of this.

There's 30 seconds left on the clock, and the game so far is a draw. Our team needs one more goal to win. Phoenix has the ball and he's running to the goals. The crowd is chanting his name, deafening us all. The crowd goes crazy as he kicks the ball into the goals. The siren goes off, ending the game.

"Well at least the game is over. I'm going to go now. Phoenix is driving you home right?" Claire asks standing.

"Yeah, see you" I answer standing as well. Phoenix must be jubilant along with his teammates. I head towards the change rooms where the footballers and cheerleaders are celebrating. I'm surprised Phoenix isn't in the middle of the group celebrating. I wonder where he is?

People are bombarding me, pushing me in different directions. I better find Phoenix soon or I'll go mad.

"Hey May what are you doing here?" Nate says noticing me, a huge grin stretched on his face.

"Hey congratulations on the game but do you know where Phoenix is?" I ask as he drags me out of the crowd to a corner that is isolated.

"Um, I saw him with Katie a few seconds ago" he answers pointing around the corner.

"Thanks Nate" I say starting to walk off.

"Wait, are you going to the after party tonight?" Nate says pulling me back.

"Yeah, I'll most likely be there" I answer giving him a smile.

"Okay, see you tonight then" he says letting go walking back to the crowd that's repopulating by the second.

I turn around the corner and the sight before me makes my stomach churn. Phoenix is kissing Katie passionately, trapping her against the wall.

I shed unvoluntary tears. I'm so stupid thinking we could actually be together. Especially when he has a line of girls lining up for him.
