Chapter 5 - New Start

Katerina's Pov

The day went by too quickly if you ask me. We were moving to Redwood, North Carolina. I wanted to change my mind right then and there. We were moving to grandma's house. I should have known. My grandma and I were close, but she had past away when I was 12. My grandpa had died three years prior to her. Redwood City was around two hours away from Charlotte. It was a medium sized town with only around 7,000 people. My grandparents' house was a huge two story log cabin. It sat on the lakeside along with many other houses. Down from the house a bit was a long deck that led out on the lake.

The house was surrounded by the woods. It had a huge wrap around porch with big windows in the front of the house. It was beautiful. This was all recalled from memory. The house, the lake, the time I spend with my grandparents, the little boy I can't put a name to, etc. I used to have a crush on the little boy with his dark locks, electric blue eyes, and chubby cheeks. He was a year older than me and never let me forget it. I pulled myself out of memory lane as I packed the last of my boxes in my dad's truck. Today I was wearing a black v cut shirt with denim short shorts and a pair of vans.

"All done dad," I said as I made my way towards the passenger door.

"Not so fast Kat," My dad said rushing to my side, "You are taking the car." My face lit up instantly. He handed over the keys, and pushed me towards the garage.

"Well you are getting the truck since you couldn't save up enough to get your own. Think of the truck as a late birthday gift! You are taking the car so I could drive it one last time. Plus you basically built the car yourself."

The last part was true. I had bought the car from the junkyard, and fixed it up in my spare time. It was an old muscle car, and my dad has an obsession with them. I gave it to my dad as a Christmas gift. I have never seen him so happy. Well, except before my mom died.

"Thanks dad. I love you." I said as I gave him a huge hug.

"I love you too bud," he said pulling out of the embrace.

"And Kat?" He added before I could get into the driver's seat.

"Yeah?" I said tilting my head, wondering what he had to say.

"Just try not to get caught," He added with his arrogant smirk.

I gave him on of my million dollar smiles, trying to look innocent as I could. "I have no idea what you are talking about."

He just shook his head and headed towards the truck. Clearly he was amused. I got into the driver's seat, and turn on the car. I loved to just listen to it purr. My father knew me too well. He knew I loved to speed. I was always in need of an aderaline rush. You gotta live everyday like it is your last, because one day it will be and I want to experience everything before then.

'This was gonna be fun,' I said to myself as I pulled out of the garage for the last time.

****************

I pulled up to a gas station just off of the highway. I had been on the road for only about an hour now with one left to go, but I needed my snacks for the rest of the way.
As I walked into the station, I got hit with a big wave of cigarette smoke. Did it ever occur to the worker that he was suppose to smoke outside? He was around fifty with a balding head and a beer belly. I recovered from my coughing fit, and tried not throwing him a dirty look as I made my way past him.
I grabbed some Doritos, Rolos, and a bottle of water before making my way up to the counter. The station had no other customers in it besides a old women who looked to be struggling with a choice of 2% or the 1% milk.
The worker, whose name is Bob, now that I've read his name tag, finally put out his cigarette as he scanned my items.
"That will be 4.64 miss. " He said smiling, showing his rotted teeth. This is why I will definitely not smoke, and will continue to brush my teeth.
I handed him a five, and told him he could keep the change as I hurried my way out.
Mental note: Never stop at a random creepy gas station alone.
I slipped back into the car, and pulled back out onto the road. I decided I would need some music on. As I pulled up to a red light, I pulled out my iPod and connected it to the car stereo.
I settled on Animal by Neon Trees. I started singing some of the lyrics as a car pulled up beside me. I had the windows down of course, because I love this warm weather.
I looked over to the car as I heard a few wolf whistles. The car was full of guys that looked around my age.
I decided I would have a little fun, so I started singing to them, and guess what? They sung right back. I couldn't help but laugh. These guys were pretty funny.
When the light turned green, I gave them a big smile and drove away. They actually thought it would be impressive to speed ahead of me. Trying to show off? Really guys? Is that necessary? I shook my head, and kept driving. I could have floored it and surpassed them, but unlike them I wanted to relax for awhile. I already did my speeding for the day.

Not even fifteen minutes later, I spotted their car on the side of the road. See? This is what happens when you decide to show off. I just chuckled to myself, and pulled the car up behind them.
I shut the car off, and got out to see if I could help. I mean, they did look pretty helpless sitting around the car with glum faces.
"Hey guys. Need any help?" I asked walking up to them.

The closest one to me looked up first, and his face instantly lit up. He had blonde sandy hair and bright blue eyes. You could see his well defined abs popping out through his tight shirt.

"Hey! You're that hot girl from the red light who was singing to us!" He exclaimed jumping to his feet.

The others looked up as he spoke. All their faces brightening as they took notice of me. They were all breathtakingly gorgeous. They all had different hair color, so I guess that's how I'll classify them.
"Yep. That's me. So what's up with your car?" I asked stuffing my hands in my back pockets.

"We don't know" the one by the hood said. He had shaggy honey brown hair with brown eyes, and a 5 o'clock shadow. He must be the oldest.
"Could I take I look?" I asked taking my hands out of my back pockets and striding over to where he was.
"Um.. Sure." He said seeming hesitant. Least he wasn't being sexist.
Guess I spoke to soon when the one with red hair and light blue eyes made a comment of his own.
He snorted, "Girls can't fix cars."
I just simply rolled my eyes. I took a look, and notice a few things.
"Okay, so first off you guys are pretty low on oil and washer fluid. Do you guys ever check your car out? And last but not least. You are almost on E. Seriously. How hard is it to fill up a tank of gas?" I said looking at four of them.

They were looking at me as if I were some kind of God. Those things I pointed out were common sense. C'mon now.
The red headed guy decided to speak his mind again.

"And how would you know?" He questioned.
"Well considering I built that car over there" I pointed, "from scratch I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about."
His friends starting laughing as his face flushed red.
"There is a gas station about a mile or two back. You guys are gonna need it." I stated with a smirk plastered on my face.
The raven haired one who had yet to speak up until now chuckled.
"She's feisty. I like her."
"Shut up Damien" the red head grumbled.
At least I have a name for one of them.
"Awe is James butthurt?" The brunette sang and ended it with a pout.
Now two names. I think we are getting somewhere. James just huffed and walked away.
"Where are you going?" The blonde one hollered.
"Where the fuck do you think Dylan? The gas station. I'll be back" he said and with that he turned away.
"He is so butthurt you guys" Dylan said with a laugh. I could help but join in with their laughter. After we could no longer see James and our laughter died down, the brunette spoke up.
"Well it looks like you know all of our names but mine. I'm Chase and you are?"
"I'm Katerina but you can call me Kat" I said with a smile.
They all smiled in return.
"Shit what time is it?" I panicked.
I looked at my phone and groaned.
"Sorry boys but I got to run. My dad is waiting for me. It was nice to meet you all and save your asses" I smirked. Wow. I don't know what it is but these guys bring out my cocky side.
"Well thank you from all of us. Maybe not James though" Damien said with a small smile.
I returned it and got back into my car. Once I started it up, I pulled up next to the boys.
"Try not to be the damsels in distress next time okay?" I smirked and added in a wink for good measure and drove off.
Those boys weren't so bad. Now it is time to get to my new home. Time for a fresh start. Maybe it won't be so bad.
