--chapter 2-- (no ones p.o.v.)

Morning came rather quickly at the Ponderosa Ranch. Jenn still lay on the sofa passed out. Adam woke up and tends to his sister for the final time before Pa takes over.

"Morning Pa." Adam greets his pa as he sips his coffee.

"How is she doing?" Pa asked Adam as he knelt down beside Jenn.

"She had a bad episode last night around 11, but she has been asleep since." Adam told Pa.

"She has a fever...did she have one this morning?" Pa asked.

"I checked her a few moments ago before I got my coffee. She was fine, no fever." Adam said, concern seeping into his tone.

"Well, she has one now. I'll get a cold rag, hopefully she'll be fine." Pa said as he walked towards the kitchen.

Adam walked over to Jenn and sat down beside her. He felt her forehead and she didn't have a fever.

"What in the world...." Adam said astonished. He removed his hand and waited for Pa to come back into the room.

"Pa, feel if she has a fever..."Adam whispers.

Pa looks at Adam with a questionable look, but gets the idea when Adam places him finger against his lips signalling him to be quiet.

Pa placed his hand on Jenn's forehead and she was burning up.

"Let me." Adam whispered.

Adam placed his hand on her cheek and she wasn't hot. Pa placed his hand on top of her forehead and she wasn't even warm.

"Looks like she found someone she is comfortable with." Pa stated.

Joe and Hoss came down the stairs, and walked over to Jenn.

"His touch calms her." Pa stated.

"How? How is that possible pa?" Joe asks in his morning voice.

"Sit down boys. Let me tell you something." Pa motioned to the chairs and stood on front of the fire place.

"You see, Jenn here is adopted of course. Her ma and pa were killed when their wagon tipped. She survived because she was rescued by a wild mare, yes a horse, and the mare took her in like she was her filly. This is why she is good with horses. She was raised by one so she knows the way of horses. But, and I only know this because she told me, Jenn is a horse herself. She can shift into a horse. She showed me, her horse side that is. She is an actual full grown horse, solid black body, white-as-snow mane and tail. Not a speck of white on her," Pa said as he stared at Jenn."She's beautiful. Maybe if she trusts you guys enough she will show you."

"So what you are saying is that she is a horse shifter, and she doesn't trust us enough to show us who she really is?" Joe asks.

"Yeah, she showed me and usually at night she goes for what she calls a 'run '." Pa states.

"Hm okay." Joe says, accepting the fact.

"That's pretty cool. I hope she can trust us to show us her true form." Hoss says.

"Trust is earned brother. You can't expect her to give it to us immediately." Adam said after being quiet all this time.

"That's true. One way you can get it is by Spirit. She loves that horse more than anything." Pa stated.  Jenn stirred around in the couch, catching their attention. She started breathing rapidly and thrashing around.

"Get her outside quick!" Pa ordered.

Adam grabbed Jenn and carried her outside. He struggled to carry her because of the thrashing she was doing. Adam set her down on the dirt where she has yet to calm down.

"Boys, shes about to change. Go get water and some oats, I'm pretty sure she will be starving." Pa states.

Joe and Hoss go to get water and Adam runs to get the oats. Pa stayed by Jenn's side while she changed.

Jenn's bones snapped into place and her coat was rugged and dirty. Her mane was matted and her tail was tangled, but she was beautiful.

She lay down on the dirt, not willing to move. Adam brought the oats out and set them by Jenn. Hoss and Joe carried out buckets of water and set them by the oats.

"She should stay like this for only a few hours. If she stays longer then we have to put her in the barn." Pa said

"Yeah. I hate to do that but we can't have a horse in the house, even if we know who the horse is." Adam confessed.

"Do I need to get a stall ready for her? "Joe asked Pa.

"Go ahead. I have a feeling she will stay like this for a while." Pa stated.

Joe left to the barn and Pa walked over to Jenn. She still hadn't moved, not even to touch the food or water. Pa rubbed her face when she looked up at him. Her eyes showed despair and pain, but from what?
