--chapter 5-- (Jenn's p.o.v.)
I can't believe he would just walk out like that. It is bad enough I can't regain control and on top of that it is below freezing.
I pace back and forth in my stall, trying to stay warm. My bones ache from the cold and I'm shivering to the point where I could get pneumonia.
'Jenn? You alright?' Spirit asks me.
'I-I c-can't g-get w-warm S-s-s-pirit' I say through shivers.
I lay down in my stall, in attempt to get somewhat warm. I munch on the hay, maybe to gain some energy to burn. I rest my head on the ground and stretch out. I don't remember falling asleep after that.
(Adam's p.o.v.)
I'm the first one awake at dawn. I dress and head downstairs to grab a cup of coffee. As I pour the cup, I hear something out front. I walk outside and the noise I heard is coming from the barn. I set the cup down on the window sill beside me and I run towards the barn. I quickly open the door to see Spirit going nuts in his stall.
I run back there and he starts kicking at the wall. I manage to quiet him down and go check on Jenn to make sure she wasn't disturbed. What I saw made me nearly pass out. Jenn was laying in her stall, not moving. I open up her stall door and walk in. She must have heard me becauseshe lifted her head ever so slightly. I kneel down beside her feel of her skin. She's stone cold she looks like she's barely hanging on. I get up and run to grab blankets. I grabbed three thick blankets and put them on Jenn. I move some hay around to put under her head so she isn't laying on the cold ground.
"This is my fault. I should've put blankets on you last night." I say as I pull one of the blankets up to Jenn's neck.
I feel her slowly warming up, and decide to let her be. Spirit seems to have calmed down, and he hangs his head over into Jenn's stall. I get up and walk out of her stall, closing and latching it shut. I take a quick glance over my shoulder at Spirit and then close the barn back up. I grab my coffee cup off of the window sill, take a sip, and walk back inside the house. I grab the newspaper off of the coffee table and start reading it. All the different headlines about politics and other stuff bore me. That is until I reached the criminal section. I saw Jenn, under a wanted sign. Sheriff Roy wanted Jenn euthanised immediately for the civil disturbance she caused. I set the paper down on the coffee tableand walk upstairs. I knocked on Pa's, Joe's and Hoss' door. I got them to come downstairs and they followed, still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes.
I walked back over to the coffee table and picked up the paper. I showed it to Pa, and he did not look to happy after that. I plopped down on the sofa and buried my head in my hands.
"Son, I understand what you are going through. But think positively about this. If we explain to Roy what happened and who she actually is then maybe he will change his mind. The worst thing that could possibly happen is she gets set back into the wild away from here. I mean it is quite possible. But like said, think positive." Pa stated as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"I know Pa, but think about it. If Roy does want he euthanized, then she will never ever trust us again. But what Roy doesn't know is that Jenn is immune to everything. Bullets, poison, everything that could possibly kill her except for natural death. Why don't we use that to our advantage?" I say, hoping it will actually work.
"Alright. We will take her to town in a bit, and turn her in." Pa stated.
Adam, Pa, and Joe take Jenn into town. They tie up her outside the sheriff's office and go inside to see Roy.
"Hello Roy. We have who you are looking for." Joe says, venom leaking through his voice.
"Oh do you now? Well where is she?" Roy asks, glaring at Joe.
Pa turns around and leads Roy outside to Jenn. Roy stares at her for a while, before scratching his head.
"Well, I hate to tell you this but, uh, she has gotta be put down. After all of the disruptions she's caused, she has to go. Or you could release her into the wild away from here. You're choice, Ben." Roy says, gesturing towards Jenn.
