Ten Years

Without You

About a month and a half later Ruby woke up from another dream about Jade, she looked at the time on her phone "shit! it's 7:40 AM i'm gonna be late!" Ruby grab a ring from the dresser near her bed "let's get through another day.." she said looking down at the ring. She quickly ran downstairs and open the front door " bye mom , bye dad!" There was no reply "ugh why do I even bother..?" She ran to the crosswalk trying to catch the green light to walk across "stay green!  stay green!" But when she got there it turned red "damn it.." she waited there for a solid two minutes and the light still hasn't turned green "come on! I'm late!" When she yelled that out a car pulled over by her and the window rolled down "hey Ruby do you need a ride to school?"
She saw that it was Mr. Coleman and smiled "yeah Mr. Coleman , thank you" she got into the car, "it's no problem." Her old 6th grade teacher said . As they drove to school "so how you doing Ruby?" Ruby turned to Mr. Coleman confused "huh?" "you know with this whole Jade's gone thing I know she was your best friend and you two really cared about each other it must really hurt now that she's gone.." Ruby looked down"yeah it does hurt Coleman...It hurts a lot..." he parked in the parking lot " I know it does...it hurts me too... I practically saw you girls grow up from six graders to juniors and now one of you are gone...I'm sorry Ruby.." Ruby shook her head "it's fine." Coleman tells Ruby "if you ever need to talk just go to my office and we'll talk about anything you want." Ruby smiled "thanks. You know what's funny you've gone from six grade teacher to eighth grade Vice Principal and now to high school principal it's like your just trying to keep an eye on us or something haha. Anyway, don't wanna be late, thanks again Coleman!"
-time skip-
In class Ruby sat next to a empty seat where Jade usually sat , she sighed and looked up at the board thinking about how she could find Jade. "Maybe do the same thing she did? Run and find her? Ugh I don't know...I just know I can't do it now..but...why ten years?" The lunch ball rang and Ruby snapped out of it "oh was that the bell?" She got up and headed to the door when her teacher called her " oh Ruby the band instructor called and he wants you to go pick up Jades things from her locker." Surprise Ruby answered "oh..o-ok" the band room...Why all of a sudden the band teacher wants Ruby to get Jades band stuff now? 
-Ruby's POV-
While walking over there I kept thinking of the times Jade and I would stay in the band room during lunch or after school. She played a bit of everything stuff like the drums,  and the flute, but mostly I would see her with a guitar. Some days she would teach me how to play something while in there. All I heard the first time she started teaching me was "don't worry you'll get!" And "you got this!" Later on it was "your getting way better at this!." I sighed and opened the door and saw all the band students talking and stuff. "Locker 116." I walked to it  and opened it, when I opened it a picture flew down to the floor I went down to pick it up and saw that it was the pictures we took in the photo booth at the fair..
-Ruby's flashback-
"Come on Ruby let's take a picture!" Jade yelled out "ugh but I don't want to Jade!" "Then I'll make you!" She pushed me into the booth and laughed "hey no fair!" "Yeah It is cuz you made me wear a dress last week so consider it pay back haha." Jade came into the booth "alright I already paid so get ready pretty girl." My face turned a bit red and I smiled "oh whatever." She smiled and put her arm on my shoulder, That was the first picture. "Ok now a funny one." She made the weirdest face ever and and I looked at her funny, and that was the second one. The next one she turned to me and kissed my cheek, that was the third picture. The last one I finally boosted up my confidence and kissed her her cheek, she was a bit surprised because I never done that but she smiled "woah! You could kiss!?" She said as she walked out of the booth and grabbed the pictures as I walked out I looked at her "well duh." She handed me my picture but gave me a look like she was about to give me a real kiss, "uhh Jade?"-
-back to reality-
I stopped thinking about it and got really mad, I picked up the picture and threw all her stuff into her old bag and slammed the locker hard. Everything was silent after but I didn't know and I was about to punch the locker "DAMN IT JADE!" I pulled my arm back and was gonna go for it  but someone grabbed my hand and held on tight "Ruby!" I turned around and yelled out with tears in my eyes "What!?" That's when I realized who it was "Trinity...?" Trinity looked at a case then at me "don't let your anger out like this. Jade wouldn't want it that way. We miss her too." "I know, I'm sorry.." I grabbed the case she was looking at and opened it, inside was Jades Guitar, her personal one. She got it for her 13th Birthday. I got it out and saw the marking she put on it, it was my name in red. I sat down and took a deep breath and started playing (the song above this chapter) as I played everyone joined in,like they knew the song. I closed my eyes for a quick second and remembered "I love you Ruby Jones." With her smile. Trinity sat next to me with her guitar and played with me. She was right I wasn't the only one who lost Jade...they did too. Just then Trinity's  friend , Ashley came besides her while playing her instrument. They both looked at each other like the way Jade would look at me, but these two were exes and Ashley has a boyfriend but they still had that connection...who wouldn't blame them...they went out for a whole year, no fights, neither of them cheated, they we're both good to each other and then out of no where Trinity broke up with Ashley. It surprised all of us. Even though Ashley has a boyfriend and Trinity is taking a very long break from relationships they still look at each other as if they were still together I guess that's what love is, would Jade give me that same look 10 years from now?
When we finished I felt relaxed ,Trinity walked up to me and asked "feel better?" I smiled and nodded "yeah." "Good. Music helps sometimes...I know it does for me.." she said as she looked at Ashley, I looked at her and asked "why did you break up with her?"  "...because...I didn't deserve her..."  I question her "what do you mean you didn't deserve her?" She didn't answer as she looked and her ex with her boyfriend. " I honestly think you two are meant to be." I told her "heh you think so..?" "Yeah it's just that your at that complicated part of the break up. Watch some day he might break up with her and who's shoulder is she going to be crying on?" She chuckled "not mine cuz I'll be too busy kicking his ass for breaking her heart." I looked at her "But didn't you break her heart too?" She looked down "I did...and there's not a day that goes by that I don't regret it..." I patted her head " come on your just a sophomore. Don't stress out to much about this and take my advice, be there for her no matter what. Show her you still love her cuz I know she's loves you too." "Then why is she with him if she still loves me??" She asked me "that I don't know kid but you gotta stay strong ok." She nodded. I smiled "come on let's go get some lunch."

-Third Person-
It's been a long day for Ruby but like every other day she gets through it. When she got home that night she went straight to her room and sat the guitar down next to her desk and threw herself onto her bed "finally home." She laid there with her head hanging off the bed. She sighed and took a picture out of her pocket "heh" she looked at it and said as if she were talking to Jade "I think I'd call this our first date. Don't you think so Jade?"  She held it close to her heart and looked at her room upside down "I did my homework at school so there's nothing really to do." She raised her right eye bow "hey." She rolled off her bed and grabbed a blue tail from under her desk and pulled out a big blue plush monkey "Blue!" She hugged the monkey tight "mom must of hid him behind my desk." She looked at it "I remembered when Jade won this for me the same day we took the pictures."
-flashback-
"WE HAVE A WINNER!" The man said at the water shooting game. "Haha told you I'd win Ruby!" Jade cheered as Ruby smiled " I didn't say you were gonna lose dummy." Jade grabbed Ruby's hand "pick one." She blushed every time Jade would hold her hand "ummm the blue monkey." Jade gave her the monkey "here ya go!" They both smiled and walked off from the game while Ruby held onto the monkey and Jades arm wrapped around her shoulder "so what do you want to do next?" Jade asked "lets go on the zipper!" Ruby said excited, Jade stuttered
"U-umm you sure you wanna get on that?" Ruby laughed "what you scared?" "No!" They both walked to the zipper and went inside. They closed the door and Jade took a deep breath "ok. I'm ready."
After the ride was over Jade sat down and put her head in her hands "uggghhhaa." Ruby looked at Jade worried "um Jade are you ok?" Jade hiccuped "yeah, I should of told you I get sick on rides like that." "Sorry..." Ruby looked down feeling bad "hey don't feel bad, I just need some food in my stomach and I'll be fine but let's get on one more ride before we go ok?"
Ruby smiled "ok which one do you wanna go on?" Jade smiled back and pointed at the Ferris wheel "let's go to the Ferris wheel."
They walked to the Ferris wheel and waited in line, and since it was already dark all the lights of the fair rides brighten the night.
"Were next." Jade looked at Ruby and held her hand and sat in the cart. Jade sat on one side and Ruby sat in the other. They both smiled "This is fun Jade. Thanks for bringing me." Ruby said as she shivered, Jade took her sweater off and put it on Ruby "yeah this is fun. But I told you to bring a sweater." "I know you did but I like your sweater." She told Jade "I bet you like my sweater more than me huh?" Ruby laughed a little "no I like you more than your sweater, I like you a lot." Jade got close to her "I know you do...and I like you a lot too." Ruby looked at Jades eye and they looked the way they did earlier...the kiss me eyes. She moved close to Jade. Just as they got to the top Jade put her hand on Ruby's cheek and leaned in brushing her lips against hers whispered "Ruby, will you be my girlfriend?"  Ruby's face turned bright red and whispered back "maybe someday Jade." Jade was about to kiss her but the cart jerked back and she fell back to her seat and sighed while looking at the view of the fair "yeah...someday"  Ruby held Jades hand and kissed her forehead "Yeah, someday." They both smiled and hugged each other. "Someday."
-flashback over-
"That could've been our first kiss..." Ruby felt tears drip down her cheek "no. I have to be strong. I'm not..gonna..." Ruby grabbed the guitar case and pulled out the guitar and started playing "without you..." she said the title to the song, she couldn't play anymore her heart ached. She dropped the guitar and laid on the floor of her bedroom crying.
"Someday I won't be without you..."
