Ten Years

Monterey Get Away (prt:1)

(A/N: Monterey Get Away is gonna be cut into five short parts starting with their first day and ending with their last.)

Today is the first day of winter break and Ruby is peacefully sleeping in her bed, now that she doesn't have to wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning to get ready for school she could sleep in all she wants well until her phone wakes her ringing by her bed "Mama, fight my teenage dreams No it's nothing wrong with me The kids are all wrong the story's aloof Heavy metal, rock my heart!" 'Why the hell is Trinity calling this early?!' Ruby thought to herself as she picked up her phone "come on, come on and let me I-" "Trinity! Do you have any idea what time it is!" She asked Trinity and she answered " yes I do, but I'm guessing you don't! It's 12:00 in the afternoon! We're breaking Day light Ruby hurry up!" "Shit it's 12 o'clock already!" Ruby jumped out of bed and ran to her closet grabbing her bag she had ready for Monterey, she changed into blue ripped jeans, a white shirt with her red leather jacket and black converse. She put her hair in a braid and ran out her bedroom door with her bag "morning sunshine." Her dad told her as she walked out of his room "morning old man." Ruby smiled and hugged her dad then ran downstairs "love you dad see you Friday!" "Wait! Where you going!?" He asked "I'm going to Monterey remember?" "Oh yeah I forgot, well have fu-" "You're not doing that. Jose is coming over today." Ruby's mother walked up cutting off her fathers sentence "What? No! Stop setting me up with all these guys!" She yelled out to her mother "who are you to be yelling at me like that!" "Your soon to be eighteen year old daughter! Who can make her own damn choices in life!"
"I don't care how old you are, you could be in your twenties, you WILL do what I tell you to do! And you will NOT go to Monterey!""Jennifer you need to calm down! Ruby can take care of herself." Her father stepped into the argument backing his daughter up "why don't you want me to go out to Monterey. No forget that. Why don't you want me to go out of town? Ever since Jade left you been keeping me in Sanger. Are you afraid that I might find the girl I love while I'm out of town? Honestly why do you hate her so much!?" "No daughter of mine will be with the same sex as her!" Silence filled the room and Ruby's father looked at her mother "Jen you have gone to far" Ruby's head dropped down and tears filled her eyes she felt something inside her she felt anger it kept burning inside her "I'm done with this shit!" She opened the door with full force and was about to walk out "Ruby Ericka Jones you get back here now!" Jennifer yelled as her daughter slammed the door.
Ruby opened her car door and got in and slamming closed it putting her hands on her face "YOU HOMOPHOBIC BITCH!!" After a few minutes of crying she calmed down and was on her way for Trinity. At Trinity's house she and Ashley waited for Ruby to showed up, they sat on the curb "man I wish I could go with you guys to Monterey, but I gotta stay here and get ready for LA." Ashley sighed "yeah me too. I would've rented a room for just us so we could have some fun" Trinity smirked joking "you perv!" Ashley hit Trinity's side "owwwa I was only kidding." They laughed as Ashley laid her head on Trinity's shoulder "your so weird Trinity." "Yeah but that's what you love about me." She wrapped her arm around Ashley "that and so many other things" they smiled "I can't believe I'm saying this cuz it's kinda fucked up but I can't wait for you to break up with Jacob." Ashley nodded and quickly kissed her "I want to break up with him now but...I don't want to hurt him." "I know you don't, I mean you don't gotta break up with him of you don't want to." "But that's cheating." "Not if we just don't get together." "No! I want to be with you!" Ashley stood up and looked at trinity a bit sad "plus...if we do get together while I'm still with him I don't think I'd be cheating...the spark between him and I has been fading for the past 3 months...he's always on his phone, always hanging with his friends, and a lot of other stuff..." "What if he's-" Trinity was cut off by the sound of music blasting from Ruby's car "uh-oh, something triggered her." Trinity opened the car door " hey Ruby you ok?" Ashley asked " just my stupid mother that's all, want me to drop you off Ashley?" "Nah, it's a nice winter day out." She smiled "take care of Trinity out there ok?" "Why you telling her to take care of me?" Trinity asked as she put her bag in the trunk "because I said so." "Oh is that the reason?" Ashley smiled and nodded "yup cuz you probably might do something stupid over there." " I won't do anything stupid!" Trinity pulled Ashley close "I promise I'll take care of her." Ruby laughed "now come on, like you said we're breaking Day light." "Ok ok, see you Friday Ash." Trinity kissed Ashley's forehead and got into the car.
As they drove to Monterey Trinity looked at Ruby "so...you gonna tell me what happened with your mom?" Ruby sighed "I guess you could say I found out why she doesn't accept my sexuality." "You guys fought about that before leaving to Monterey?" "Well we fought about her not letting me go. But it's stupid..it's not like I'm going to find Jade at Monterey or anything..."
"So your telling me she doesn't want you to find Jade because she doesn't want you to love her?"
Trinity asked "yeah I guess so...I don't know...she was just acting really stupid." Ruby answered then chuckled "it's not like Jade would be in Monterey anyway..." "what if she is?" "There's a one in a million chance that she's there." Trinity looked out the window and sighed "yeah, I guess your right...but I thought you wanted to find her, don't you want to know where she is and why she left? Don't you want her back?" Ruby stopped at a near by gas station and looked down "yes I want to find her...yes I want to know where she is...yes I want to know why she left us...but I'm doing what I know Jade would want me to do...she'd want me to stay here and finish school, she'd want me to stay so I could look after you and Ashley...she'd want me to stay with her family...she'd want me to be in the same place she left...she'd want me to stay for us...yeah I'm gonna go look for her but not now...maybe little by little right now and maybe after I graduate. I mean like put yourself in my shoes, if Ashley left like Jade did would you go look for her or would you do what she wanted you to do." "I'd do the same thing your doing now." Trinity answered "but like you just said right now, you could look little by little right now. What makes you think that she isn't in Monterey? Remember Jade loves Monterey, she loved it so much that she wanted to move here. Come on We gotta look!" Ruby sat in silence, for a moment then turned to Trinity "you know what? Your right, but that's too close to home... why run some place that's close to home and would be the first place someone would look for her?" "Maybe she wanted you to look for her she knew that you'd know that she would be in Monterey and plus maybe she just wanted to stay close." Trinity said "you know what? Maybe she is there. I know it's only been a year Jade but it seems like forever..." Ruby said as she started the engine "we're coming to find you." "Good, now can I please turn the radio on it's been so quiet." Trinity asked as they drove off "yeah but you better find a good station." "Alright alright."She looked for a station that wouldn't repeat the same song every ten minutes.
In Monterey, Jade slept the day away on her couch hugging a near by pillow tightly. A bottle of a half full Jack Daniels stood on a near by coffee table next to a shot glass still full. The nights gotten more rough and complicated, coffee has turned to whiskey and the lonely nights aren't sober ones. She hasn't been out of the house in weeks, not even for work. Someone knocks at the door then followed by a voice "Yo Jade! You still alive?" And another "Rob quiet down." Jade opened one eye and looked at the door sighing, she got up and grabbed her sunglasses and opened the door as she put them on "hey guys." She said with a fake smile letting her friends in one of them stopped in front of her "what's going on with you?" "Nothing Beck, I promise." "It doesn't seem like nothing, you're missing work and we haven't seen you in weeks!" Her friend Becky said "Where did you get the bottle of jack from?" Rob asked "I've had had it for awhile now. Wait what are you guys doing here anyway?" "To see if your ok, I mean this isn't the first time you been like this but when you got like this back then you just stay home all weekend...not for four weeks." "If it's really getting to you this bad then why don't you go see her?" Jade looked down and took off her sunglasses "you already know why I can't do that Rob..." Becky grabbed Jades shoulder and shook her softly "So what!? You miss Ruby don't you!?" "Well yeah but-" "but nothing don't let her get in the way of you seeing Ruby! Everyday at work when I see you walk in with red eyes and dried up tears on your face, I see how broken you are just by being away from her! I hate seeing my friend like that, Jade it's time to grow some damn balls and go out and see the girl you love!" Tears dripped down Jades cheek as everything went silent, she sniffled and wiped away the tears with one hand and smiled "you know what?....your right. I'm not gonna let some bitch get in the way of seeing the girl I love!" "Now your talking Jade. See you just needed some girl talk, that's why I brought Becky." Rob smiled and ruffled Jades hair "aw really!? You just had to go for the hair huh?!" Jade shouted as she fixed it in the mirror "you have bed head anyway girl." Becky laughed.
Later on in the day Jade and Becky were at work, Becky stood at the cash register as Jade fixed up some towels and yawned "God this why I hate working in the winter!" "Cuz it's always a slow day in the winter" "yeah, hey turned the radio on!" Becky smiled and turned on the Radio. "I found you late night covering your tracks like you never lied before, I ain't 18 anymore." Jade smiled "dude I haven't heard this song in a long ass time!" She danced around the shop singing "Still you'll stop at nothing, I gave all I have, so move your shit, find some help from your friends!" Becky laughed and smiled as Jade continued to sing the song. "Damn, Haha I feel so much better now." "Hey that reminds me, when are you going to go see her anyway?" Becky asked "I don't know, Maybe next week cuz I know their on winter break. But can you and Rob come-" Jade was cut off by laughter from outside "Ah no Trinity! Don't say stuff like that!" Ruby shouted as Trinity laughed "hahaha what? You know you'd be like that if you guys were ta...ya'know. You'd be like this I bet "AHH JADE OOH YES!!" Hahah!" "Your gross!" Ruby shook her head quickly. "No way..." Jade said with wide eyes as she walked out of the shop, she sees them walk around the corner and runs to the corner then stopping. There they were , her best friend and the love of her life, "hey at least I'm not writing weird smutty fanfics about you guys!" Trinity yelled out "thank god your not." Ruby laughed as she threw her arm around Trinity and ruffled her hair "hey hey hey watch the hair! Watch the hair!" Trinity shouted "your so much like Jade, Trinity." Jade smiled bright and her body filled with excitement, her her hands started shaking and her heart beated fast "RUBY!! TRINITY!!" She shouted "huh?" The girls turned to see nothing, Jade hid on the other side of the corner 'no they can't see me right now..wait, what are they doing in Monterey? Maybe their looking for me! But still I have to do something. I can't just run up to them like just another day in high school, no I gotta do this slowly and awesome. Wait! Where's Ashely?' Jade thought as she walked back into the shop. "Was that her? And your friend?" Becky asked "heh yeah..." "I could see why you would go through all this trouble for a girl like her." They smiled "you and rob met up at my apartment tonight alright?"
Later on that night Ruby and Trinity hung out in their hotel room getting ready for the night "yes I'll bring you something from the gift shop Ash, yes I'll write our names in the sand and take a picture of it, yes we're gonna find Jade, babe come on can't I text you that? Alright alright." Trinity sighed of embarrassment " I'm addicted to this girl, she got my heart tied in a knot and my stomach in a whirl, but even worse I can't stop calling her, she's all I want and more, I mean damn, what's not to adore?" Ruby tried to hold in her laugh as Trinity talked to her soon to be girlfriend "ok I gotta head to bed so we could get a early start. Love you too my sunshine, when we met again all will be golden in the sky." Ruby smiled and rolled her eyes "-met the night, good night for sure this time Ash, I love you." Trinity hung up her phone and looked at Ruby with a red face "whatever..." "aww come on you guys are so cute!" "Yeah yeah I know!" Trinity threw a pillow at her and smiled "I really do love her." "I was able to tell since you and Ashley met." Ruby said "you weren't there when I met her." "I know but you know what I mean!" Ruby looked down "do you think it was her yelling out our names earlier?" "That or we're just going crazy." Trinity answered "heh...can't wait to find her..we're checking out cannery row first thing in the morning." Ruby smiled softly "that was her favorite spot." Trinity nodded "night kid!" Ruby threw back the pillow that Trinity threw at her.
Back at Jades apartment Jade was pacing back-and-forth her living room "I can't believe their in Monetary!" "Yo chill kid you still gotta figure out what your going to do." Rob said to her "oh yeah." Jade sat on the couch and started thinking "she gots her thinking face this may take awhile, how bout some pizza." Becky said as she took out her phone "make it two pepperoni, it's gonna be a long time" rob said as he looked at Jade. A few hours later that sat in the living room eating pizza waiting for Jade t think of something "come on Jade it's one in the morning do you have anything?" Rob asked, Jade jumped off the couch and smiled "I got it! Code Ruby starts to first thing in the morning! You guys just go with the stuff I'm going to text you later alright?" "Sounds good!" Becky smiled "I'm gonna crash here tonight ok Jade, it's pretty late" she yawned "sure go ahead. How bout you rob?" Jade said "Nah I gotta work the night shift again." Rob answered "Booo you suck" Jade stuck her tongue out "no that's your job sweetheart." He laughed and stepped out the door. "So Beck, you could go ahead and sleep in my room." She tells Becky "you sure Jade?" "Yeah, I'm gonna stay up a little longer." "Alright but no Jack Daniels ok?" She threw a pillow at Jade "I promise." Jade caught the pillow and smiled as Becky walked to the room, Jade couldn't help but smile, she danced around her living room till her knee hit the coffee table "fuck!" Jade whispered quietly as fell back on the couch cussing out her pain in the arm rest of the couch. One Jade was done she stood up and limped to the kitchen "damn barely one thirty?" She said to herself as she grabbed the bottle of Jack but then remembered her promise to Becky, looking at the bottle and started thinking deep "not tonight bud," she set it back down and grabbed the bag of ground coffee and started to make herself a cup. After making her cup of coffee she sat out in the balcony looking up at the stars and the moon, she took a sip of her coffee and the smell filled her nose "ah how I missed coffee." She smiled as she watched the steam of the coffee dance in the cold air. She looked up at the moon again "I can't wait to see you Ruby."
