chapter one

Mike Wheeler's Pov

A year has passed since the gang and I saved Eleven from The Upside Down. Since then, things have been brighter for her.

She has a life now, has a few friends, her own bed, clothes, and she even goes to school with us

"Mike.."

but, she still suffers from her past

"M-Mike.. please wake up."

I woke up to El poking at my shoulder, I rubbed my eyes and turned my head towards her.
Her shoulder length hair was knotted up from sleeping and her eyes were filled with tears, that made me sit up quickly.

"Hey.. What's wrong?" I spoke in a tired raspy voice.

"Nightmares.." Eleven sniffled and looked down at her bare feet.

I scooted over in my bed and lifted up the covers, motioning for her to climb in my bed. Eleven nodded and climbed under the covers then resting her head on my chest, lacing her arm around me with her other pressed against her chest.

Eleven was shaking in fear against me, I could almost feel how terrified she was.

"You wanna talk about it?.." I asked as I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her closer to me and buried my face in her messy brown hair.
Once my arms were wrapped around her, she started to speak softly in a shaky voice.

"Y-you guys were taken away from me.. b-bad men.. they got you.. killed you.. I-I was alone a-and.." She couldn't finish and lets out a sob, burring her face in my chest.

I put my hands on her cheeks and raised her face up to mine so we could look at each other.
I looked at her for a few moments and wiped away the tears streaming down her warm face.

"It's okay.. I'm here, everyone is still here.. you're not alone.. you never will be." I said softly and rubbed my thumbs over her cheeks, trying to calm her down.

"Promise?.." she sniffled and took a few shaky breathes, wrapping her hands around my wrist.
I smiled at Eleven and rested my forehead on her's.

"Promise.."

That one powerful word made her softly smile against my hands, making her calm down. Eleven's breathing started to ease, her tears dried up, and her body un-tensed.
"Are you feeling better?" I asked her and wrapped my arms around her again, tracing circles on her back.
Eleven looked up at me and nodded.

"Thanks to you, Mike." She said faintly and leaned up, giving me a soft kiss on the lips. I kissed her back and rested one of my hands on her cheek then running my fingers through her hair. Eleven smiled against our kiss and breaks it, making me pout just a little. She lets out a chuckle from seeing my pout and I just smiled at her, I couldn't get enough of her. She makes me the happiest person in the whole world, I don't know what I'd do without her.

"Can I stay here tonight?" I hear her ask.

"Of course.. you're always welcomed to." I replied to her question, which just made her smile even more.
Eleven snuggled up against me and I fixed the covers over us, making sure both of us were comfortable.

I kissed her forehead and I felt a peck on my chest from her.

"Goodnight, Mike."
"Goodnight, El."
we said to each other.

I played with the ends of her hair for awhile before I heard her breathing change, signaling that she fell asleep.

"I love you.." I softly said to her before I fell into a deep sleep myself.
I could of sworn I heard her say "I love you too." before I did.
