Dragoris’ walk toward the hills was uneventful. He made it about three miles from town before he stopped, and grabbed a leather water flask and drank out of it.
The summer sun was excruciatingly hot today. It was late afternoon, and the trail towards the hills was empty. It is a little unusual in the summertime for no activity in this part of the path. Children on break from school normally ran around along this road until dusk.
Dragoris was sure that part of the reason why the road was so empty was due to the rumors that reached town about bandits in the hills.
The sun was shining high and bright. The road was made of paved dirt and rocks leading toward the hills. A bit further up, you can see the road stopping, and just a hiking trail starting. Open fields were off to his left. Wheat abundant on that flat area right before the base of the hills. To his right were dense woods. Tall thin trees with bright green leaves giving shade to many animals.
Dragoris got to the top of the hills a short time later. He picked about two dozen Gummy Blossoms and stuffed them all in his pack. The hills were green with grass and spots of weeds and bushes everywhere. The clouds had started to form once Dragoris reached the top of the hills. As Dragoris closed his pack, it started to drizzle. Dragoris got his umbrella out and up, and started down the trail toward Minathis.
Halfway down the trail, Dragoris saw a body lying on the side of the trail. Dragoris ran to the body. It was a man of dark complexion. His breathing was labored, but there didn’t seem to be any visible wounds on him. He was dressed in all gray, from his tunic, to his trousers, to his boots.
Dragoris picked the man up and gently shook him. “Are you alright?” Dragoris asked, the man moaned, but didn’t respond otherwise.
Dragoris laid his pack down and got out a wrapped up cloth. When he opened up the cloth, there were sticks and twine wrapped in it. Dragoris made a temporary litter. Dragoris placed the litter next to the man on the ground, rolled the man to his side and pushed the litter under the man.
Once Dragoris secured the man on the litter with some more twine, he placed the umbrella over the man and pulled the litter downhill toward town.
