Kissing Practice

Chapter Five

I woke up Saturday morning feeling a lot better than I did yesterday. Had my bath and went down to the kitchen to join my mum. She was making some pancakes for breakfast and I gladly joined her. After enough persuasion, she agreed to bake a small cake also.
By 9:30 we had eaten breakfast and I took the plates to the kitchen to wash while I left my mum to tidy up the dining table.
In a few minutes time, Jon will be on his date with Kendall. I really hoped it went well. That would mean a lot to Jon.
There was a knock on the door.
"Please Ava honey get the door" I heard my mother call.
I quickly rinsed my hands and went to answer the door.
And there he was looking at handsome as ever in his white shirt and denim pants. The one I picked out for him.

"What are you doing here? It's almost 10am. And why are u not wearing your purple shirt?" I asked.
"Yeah...about that. He scratched his hair lightly. "I called it off."
Did he just say that??

"You called off you date with Kendall?"
"Yeah I did. Uh... Can I come in? It feels weird having this convo at the door step.
Oh. I didn't even realize.
I opened the door further and stepped aside so he could enter.

"What happened?" I asked.
"I uh felt that it was all wrong. She isn't the person I wanna go on a date with. I'm sorry it took this long for me to realize that.

I felt my heart was beating too fast. I could hear it.

"Wha...what are you talking about Jon?"
"He took two steps towards me and continued. "What I'm saying is that..... Kendall is not the girl I want to date, you are. I have known that for a while but it all became glaring yesterday, especially after we kissed. Now I realize that the only girl I wanna take to the purple lantern is you. The only girl I want to make me go nuts over the perfect outfit to wear on a date........ Is you".
He walked closer to me again and held my hands.
"The only girl i want to take on a date today is you. Then he bent to my ear and whispered softly. "And the only girl I want to kiss......... is you".

I could feel tears well up my eyes. I blinked them away.

"Then what are you waiting for?"
With a smile he covered the rest distance between us and kissed me.

This time, this kiss wasn't for practice, it was not for Kendall. It was for me. It was real this time. This was me kissing my crush and I never felt happier.

"Ava, who was at the door?"

"Its my classmate mom. No worries". I shouted back as I broke the kiss.
I smiled at Jon. As he kissed my hands and went down on one knee.

"Ava, will you do me the honour of going on a date with me?".

"Aw, that's so cheesy" I said with a grin.

He smiled and winked at me. "You like cheesy".
He knew me so well.

"I'm not standing until I get my answer" he said playfully.
"Yes I will go on a date with you silly."
He got up and gave me a hug. He planted a sweet kiss on my forehead.

I think I'm about to loose my mind.

"Let me get my purse" I said.
I ran up to my mum's room and took permission to leave the house and she agreed. I took my purse and grabbed my phone from my bed. I quickly sent Paige a text.

'All is well now'.

I felt light as a helium balloon as I got down to meet Jon. He held my hand and we both walked out of the house together.
