The rest of the day was uninteresting and long, I didn't get to talk to Beth about mysterious new guy. I mean Harry Styles, we were too busy finishing off Beth's entry to the art competition. Dad decided to pick me up for once instead of being too busy with his work.
"How was your day sweetie?" Dad asks in his sweet 'I need a favour voice'. I knew this was too good to be true.
"What do you want Dad?" I sigh.
"Okay well I need you to drop something off to the neighbour's house for me, I would do it myself but I need to finish off my paper work."
"Dad we don't have neighbours..?" I reply, well more ask then reply.
"Ally, have you been living under a rock? We got new neighbours in the middle of the holidays. You need to pay more attention darling." To be fair all holidays ive done nothing except open my door for when Beth was coming over, I'm not really a going out kind of person. Oops?
"What am I dropping off anyway?"
"Just a food platter, like a late welcoming gift."
"Dad you never cook."
"I know I bought food and you're going to make it look good."
"Ugh." I groan. This is the last thing I want to do, but I decide what's the worst that can happen.
We get home and I get out of the car before it stops moving.
"I'll see you tonight sweetie."
"Whatever Dad" I whisper so he doesn't hear me. I get inside and go to my room to get changed into something comfier than what I wore to school. I kept my sweater on but changed into sweatpants instead of jeans and put my ugg boots on because why not? I shuffle down to the kitchen and see a box of cupcakes and instantly regret agreeing to this, they're going to tell these are bought and I'm going to be the one embarrassed not Dad. I swallow my pride and put the cupcakes on a plate and try to make it look like I made them but who am I kidding? They look perfect and that's definitely not what you would call my cooking.
I exit the house and walk to our only neighbours' house. I start getting nervous and I start biting my lip. I make it to the front door and the nerves increase. I don't even know these people. Are they old? Are they young? I'm going in blind here!
I knock on the door before I see the doorbell that has writing under it saying "please don't knock". Good fucking start Ally.
The door opens and I see a young girl, maybe 9 years old. She starts smiling widely.
"Mummy we have an actual visitor!" She then squeals, "And she made cupcakes for us!"
I snicker at the sight. "Hey I'm your neighbour and I just wanted to welcome you to the street." I say calmly. I think the little girl is relaxing me.
"Well hi there Darl, thank you for the welcome" A lady came out of nowhere and replied. I was guessing she was the mum but god she was gorgeous. She looks too young to be a mother.
"We bought welcome food, dad doesn't really have time to cook sorry" I almost whisper, ashamed of our poor effort.
"That's absolutely fine love, I'm not much of a cook myself." She replied, laughing at her own statement.
"oh okay." I say feeling better.
"We haven't made many friends over here yet, why don't you and your family come over from dinner tomorrow night? We would love the company."
"It's just me and my Dad actually but I'm sure he'd be more than happy to come over." I answer.
"Wonderful! Although I think ill leave the cooking up to my son, I don't want to poison you Darling." She warns while giggling.
I chuckle "sounds good Mrs...?"
"Cox, but call me Anne." She smiles. "See you 7 tomorrow night?" She asked hopefully.
"Of course Mrs. C... Anne." I smiled and walk back to my house feeling good. Our neighbours are amazing and I'm actually looking forward tomorrow night. Lets hope nothing goes wrong.
