(Name) sat next to Maggie and stared at the empty seat next to Marty in the low lit restraunt.

"Is he coming?" She asked Marty nervously. The three were waiting on Rustin Cohle, Marty's police partner.

"He'll be here. Now he's a bit... Intese. So don't let him freak you out alright?" Marty took a sip of his beer and smiled.

"He's attractive. He's smart and has a promising career in the police business." Maggie looked at Marty and looked at her.

"That's good. He's a good man right?" (Name) nursed her water and looked around.

"He's a great guy. A little strange but great." Marty raised his glass and nodded. "Speak of the devil and he shall arrive. C'mon Rust join us."

Rustin stood next to Marty and straighted his black tie. A cigarette dangled from his lips and moved slightly as he smiled.

"Rust, this is (FullName), she's a nurse with Maggie. (Name) this is Rustin Cohle, my partner in fighting crime." Marty smirked and chucked looking at Maggie.

"Did you wait this whole time to make that joke?" Rust ran a hand through his tousled brown hair.

Marty narrowed his eyes and started to fill Rust's mug. "Thirsty?"

"No thanks." Rust flicked the ash off his cigarette and motioned at (Name)'s (s/c) hands "Do you play piano?"

(Name) turned bright red and nodded. "Uh no..why do you ask?"

"You uh. You've been tapping a rhythmic pattern into the table." Rust nursed his water and smirked.

After a few minutes of small talk Marty looked at Maggie and raised an eyebrow. "Wanna dance?"

"Of course." She stood up taking his hand.

Rust watched the two dance and looked at his date. (Name) sat across the table and looked at the couples dancing.

"Come on.. Let's dance." Rust stood up and held his hand out. (Name) gingerly accepted it and smiled.

"So.. You're from (State)?" He asked as they swayed to the music.

"(Different State) actually, I grew up there and lived my teen and college years in (State)."

"Hm. I was born in Texas and grew up in Alaska."

"I noticed you don't drink." (Name) gently rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. "Nor do I. I hate the taste it. It makes my depression worse."

"Then let's go." Rust kept a straight face and looked at Marty and Maggie. "They won't mind. They'll actually be ecstatic." He lead her away from the dance floor and to his truck.

(Name) climbed in the red two door and looked at the cigarette cartons. Rustin rolled the window down and lit a cigarette.

"I'd offer you one but judging by the look of distain on your face you don't smoke." Rust flicked the ash out the window and looked over at her pulling out of the parking lot.

"My grandfather died of lung cancer. So no, I don't smoke." (Name) bit her cheek.

"I'm sorry to hear that." He drove down the road and looked at her. "So... Where do you want to go?"

"Your place?" (Name) scooted closer to him and placed her hand gently on Rust's thigh.

Rust stiffened and pushed on the gas petal. He turned sharply and pulled over, and hopped out opening her door.

"Quite the gentleman, aren't we?" (Name) took his hand stepped out of the truck and looked up at Rust.

"Ain't no one truely a gentleman. Just men who know how to act." Rust unlocked the front door and lead her in. "This is it."

(Name) looked around the barren house and tried not to look disturbed. "Did you just move in?"

"No. I've been here for a few months. I like the empty, it's calm." Rust put the cigarette out and pinned (Name) against the wall.

"I am.. I'm not normal. Normality is a construct that I don't want to interfere with." He whispered in her ear.

"I don't care. I'm clinically depressed and spent my waking moments worrying." (Name) stood on her tiptoes and looked in his eyes.

Rust looked at her for a minute and kissed her long and hard. (Name) kissed him back and pulled his tie down. He smirked and picked her up carrying her to the mattress. Rust laid (Name) down and kissed down her jaw and her neck.

Rust pushed his hand up her thigh and unzipped her dress. (Name) unbuttoned his dress shirt and slid out of her dress kissing him feverishly.

"Wait. Wait. Wait." (Name) pulled away and placed her hands on his shoulders.

Rust stopped half way through unbuckling his pants and looked at her. "What?"

"You're really cute, and I really want to do you, but I really like you. And I know how this will end and-"

She was cut off by Rust kissing her gently. "Then let's just sleep. No pressure." He pulled his pants off and laid down next to her.

(Name) rolled towards him and drew circles on his chest. "Goodnight, Rustin."

"Goodnight, (Name)."

The next morning Rust dropped (Name) off at her apartment building. She walked over to his truck window and smiled.

"Tuesday you should come over for dinner. If you want I mean." (Name) pulled his face close to hers and kissed him.

"Will do Ma'am." Rust smirked at looked at his watch. "I gotta go. Duty.. Calls."

(Name) watched as he pulled away and sighed.

Rust ran a hand through his hair and walked into the office. He sat at his desk and looked at Marty.

"What?" Rust lit a cigarette and took a long drag.

"The fuck is wrong with you? We bring you a nice girl and you don't wait until the third date?" Marty hissed at Rust.

"We didn't do anything, just slept at my house. (Name) invited me over for dinner on Tuesday actually." Rust flicked the ash off his cigarette and looked at him.

"I guess your flowers will work better with her." Marty laughed and looked at the case files.

"Shut up."
