Chapter 15

I awoke in a well-lit room; a stark contrast to the room I had been in last. A face came into view and I jumped, startled.

Alain?

No, it was a female, and she smiled gently at me.

What was her name again?

Molly, right. Zeke's mother. If she was his mother, did that mean-

"Zeke?" My voice came out like a strained gasp. To her credit, she knew what I was talking about.

"He's laying down in another room. Since you're awake, why don't you rest until he wakes up? I'll tell him to come in then," Molly said, and I gave a sharp jerk of my head in a poor imitation of a nod.

Molly squeezed my shoulder before ducking out. I sighed, sinking back into the pillows. This was all just so much to take in at once.

My boyfriend is a werewolf, my brother hunts werewolves, it turns out Lucas actually felt something when we broke up, and I nearly died.

Just a lot, you know?

Later, a nervous knock came from outside the door.

"Come in," I croaked. I sat up as quickly as possible when Zeke's worried face poked in through the crack.

"Erin?" His voice was quiet, almost ashamed.

I smiled as widely as I could without wanting to cry out from the pain. "Zeke, oh my gosh, I've been so worried!" I reached out my hands. I'm not sure why he was way over there, I wanted to feel him in my arms.

Relief washed over his expression and he practically flew into my embrace. "Erin, thank god, I thought something terrible had happened to you, or you weren't going to wake up, or-"

"Zeke?" He peeked up at me, and I noticed his face was eerily pale. What had I missed? "Just shut up and hold me, okay?"

Nodding he pulled me gingerly into his chest, crawling onto the bed with me. I buried my nose in the crook of his neck, letting his smell flood my senses.

"I had faith in you," I murmured, voice muffled in his shoulder. "I knew you would come for me."

Zeke tensed. "Erin, babe, what...what happened? I know...about Alain."

"Zeke, as much as I love you, I really don't want to talk about it." My throat was itchy, and I swallowed. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay." After a brief moment, Zeke chuckled. "You love me?"

"I did not say that."

"You did."

"Did not."

"Did too."

"It slipped out."

He lightly kissed the space under my ear, and my face warmed from his easy show of affection. "For what it's worth, I love you too."

"Good."

He leaned back and arched a brow. "What?"

Frowning, I crossed my arms. "I'd be hella pissed if you had gone and said you loved someone else, you know?"

He shrugged. "There's no one in my eyes but you, babe."

I rubbed my nose. "So this, this werewolf thing. How does it work?"

Zeke blinked and looked away. "Can we talk about that another time?"

I went silent and fiddled with the bottom of his white tee. "Okay. But, uh, are we mates or something now?"
