"Okay Ty-m-ber-in? How do you pronounce that?" The principal, Mr. Estes, asks. "It's spelled Tymberlynn, and pronounced like the shoe timberland but Lynn in stead of land" I explain. I smile like I just love explaining how to say my name. He nods staring at a piece of paper on his desk. "You have a 4.2 GPA. That is just crazy!" He leans forward. "You know what? I like you Ms.Bruno. You can do wonders for this high school." He leans back and smiles to himself.
He hands me a slip of paper. "Here is your information, you have all AP classes, except for gym. I hope you have a great year at Stony Waters High!" He smiles. I smile back grab my bag and walk out of his office. Sadie, my best friend, waits for me right outside of the office. "I heard everything." She says and snatches the information slip out of my hand. She raises her eyebrows and looks confused. "The 400 hall!"She says and stops. I just look at her. "There isn't anything on that hall. It's empty! They built the hall and didn't put anything there. Just empty abandoned classrooms!" She yells. This might be the right time to tell you that my best friend is highly dramatic. She turns on her heels and walks back into the principal's office.
When she comes back her caramel face is tinged with irritation. "He says there is no other locker space so you have to use anyone on the for 400 hall." she says. I refrain from telling her that I don't even know what's so bad about this dreaded 400 hallway. "Hey I know what we could do!" She get that look in her eyes that says she has an idea crazy enough to get us detention for a month. "We could explore the unexplored. Are you brave enough to complete this challenge of bravery?"She asks waving her fingers at me. I roll my eyes at her. " What's so bad about walking down some dark hallway?" I say walking backwards and talking to her at the same time.
"So come on, if you're oh so brave." she says. She grabs my arm and we run down to the 400 hall. It's dark and dusty. She drops my arm and begins to explore all the lockers. I look around too. I poke my head into one of the deserted classrooms. It looks interesting, so I start to open drawers covered with inches dust. I believe that it used to be a health classroom because of the skeleton model. There is a bookshelf in the back. The books are stacked all kinds of ways. I pick up a thick one that has practically no dust on it. That means someone must be coming here pretty often to keep the dust off. I notice a couple of other books without dust on them. When I pick up another one there is a handle behind it, I start to pull it when the bell rings and Sadie peeks her head through the threshold. "You were right, this place is boring, we gotta go anyways." she says
For the rest of the day I can't stop thinking about that handle, I have to know what's behind that shelf.
