The snow outside fell silently, landing on anything it touched. The blanket of white rested beautifully on the city of Magnolia, which looked fast asleep under the soft, yet warm covers. Silence flooded the streets, there was only the romping dog bark or the odd person roaming around on the streets.

Meanwhile, Fairy Tail didn’t seem to reflect the calm and peaceful weather outside. Gray and Natsu were dissing each other, like always, Droy and Jet were fighting over Levy, and Cana watched the scene whilst drinking her barrel of booze.

The guild was normal, but Erza looked down. She wasn’t doing her regular activities, like separating Natsu and Gray’s fight, of eating her favourite food; delicious strawberry cake topped with icing.

A certain blue-haired mage was on Erza’s mind, and it seemed to be silencing all of her other thoughts, “The last time I thought about Jellal was,” Erza thought to herself, “When?”

She stared out the tall windows of Fairy Tail and watched the beautiful, white snowflakes fall down to the ground as this brain-teasing question wandered her mind. Every passing day she felt as if her heart would sink into the depths of the ocean, and every passing day without her childhood ‘friend’ was an obstacle she had to get through. Even though she kept her feelings a secret, stored in her heart, someone began to notice.

“Oi, Erza, are you okay?” Lucy asked, a concerned expression on her face.

Erza blinked, as if just realizing she was at Fairy Tail, “Ah, no, I mean, yes, I’m fine. Just a little lightheaded.”

Lucy looked at her friend with concern, noticing that Erza was not quite herself. She looked as if she was not even on Earthland, as if she was off in some dreamland, staring sadly into a sea of emotions.

“If you’re not feeling well, perhaps you should take a break from jobs, or go see Porlyusica-san.” Lucy suggested softly.

Erza stayed silent for a moment, before answering, “I’ll be fine, I’ll just go take a walk around Magnolia.”

She got up from the table she was sitting at and headed towards the door, her steps slow and sluggish. By that point, even Natsu and Gray had started to notice that something was wrong with Erza.

“LOOK GRAY! YOU MADE ERZA FEEL ALL SAD! IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT YOU ICE-BREATH!” Natsu yelled to Gray, who clicked his tongue angrily in response.

“WHAT? I DIDN’T DO A THING! SO THEN IT MUST BE YOUR FAULT!” Gray exclaimed accusingly. After this quarrel, Natsu and Gray, being the hopeless idiots that they were, went back to yelling at each other and stirring up the guild once again.

And just when Wendy had gotten them to calm down, too.

However, Erza didn’t even look back. She just kept trudging towards the door; step by step, getting closer and closer. When she reached the door, Lucy sprinted after her, feeling that something was strange about Erza’s depressed behavior.

“Ne, do you want me to go with you?” Lucy asked, feeling concern once again for her scarlet-haired friend.

“Eh?” Erza asked, as if just noticing Lucy had come up beside her, “No, I’ll be fine. I just want to, uh, reflect on stuff.”

“Oh, okay then.” Lucy replied in a rejected tone.

Erza sighed and went back to trying to figure out the answer to her question, while opening the door to the guild. The wind blew onto her face, feeling prickly and cold. However, Erza didn’t pay attention to that at all. It was as if she couldn’t even feel anything.

She walked around Magnolia with her head held low, her scarlet hair falling in front of her face. But Erza made no attempt to push it back, as she continued to walk, without caring where she would end up. White, fluffy snowflakes fell onto her crimson hair, but Erza was only thinking about her blue-haired childhood friend. She was thinking about what she would have down without him, and what she should have done. She thought about the emotions she was feeling now, emotions that hurt, emotions that Erza was unable to process, and emotions that she seemed to be lost in.

She was surrounded in her own feelings as though she was going to drown in them, drown in a sea of emotions. The more she thought about him, the faster her legs carried her, as if she was subconsciously trying to run away from her problems.

In no time, Erza was running around aimlessly. She passed familiar shops and familiar houses, but Erza had no interest in them. She kept running, and running, and running, and it was as though she would continue running forever.

Suddenly, her foot hit an icy spot on the sidewalk; gravity taking over from them and making her slip. She plunged towards the ground, like she was falling into her sea of emotions. She got closer and closer to the ground, and braced herself for the impact.

However, the pain never came. Just as she was about to hit the icy ground layered with soft snow, Erza felt warm hands catch her.

At first, it seemed like a dream. But as she realized what happened, a wave of happiness went through her, and just like that, the sun came out from behind the gloomy skies.

She looked back and all she saw was a masked man, swiftly striding away from her as he raced out of sight. However, Erza saw the lock of sapphire hair that blew in sync with her own scarlet hair with the wind. The man turned back to look at the young maiden, and their eyes met for only a split second, before he disappeared into the horizon.

But in that split second, Erza felt that her questions had finally been answered.

“I got to see you again,” Erza said in a kind and heart-warming voice, “I’m so glad…”
