Valerian

We stood outside the town line staring in awe at the monstrous dark cyclone towering above us. It ripped at the ground in a smoky fury and it appeared to be tearing up the middle of the town. Corinne, Scarlet, Melody, Paris, Aurorealis, and I looked on in panic. A girl a bit younger than all of us stood on the other side of the line. She was pleading for us to help her town. The wind roared at us and suddenly the sign that was once standing tall next to us was being lifted high into the air. The sign had said "Storybrooke" across the front. Had we finally found the town of magic that had spurred so many rumors?

But first, allow me to explain how we all ended up here.

The Abandonment (10 years before the Dark Curse)

"Gather everyone together!" yelled Regina to her guards, attempting to regain the attention of her audience. A large crowd of familiar fairytale faces was gathered before her, each curious about the evil queen's summons. They had never been summoned to the castle before, let alone by Regina. She stomped about before them, angry the crowd had gotten unruly.

"SILENCE!" she yelled as an orb of orange flames filled her hand. She aimed it at the crowd. The visitors immediately ended their questioning understanding the implication of the threat.

"Now..." she began. "I have summoned you here today as result of some rumors circulating the kingdoms." A look of panic spread among the faces of the audience. What rumors could the queen be referring to? She flashed an evil smirk of approval at the crowds discomfort.

"I do believe there have been rumors of CHILDREN circulating about you." The horrors on the faces of the audience members grew much more apparent.

Now would be a good time to specifically identify who occupied the audience. In the front stood Red Lucas, daughter of Anika Lucas. She had been traveled many miles from her village to hear the news. Along with her stood Belle French, the Dark One's current wench. Rumplestiltskin wasn't very thrilled about allowing his maid to visit the Queen, but Regina had made a deal with him involving his long lost son, Baelfire. But that's another story. With her was Aurora and her boyfriend Prince Phillip. They weren't yet married, but they were soon to be. Although, rumor had it a certain evil fairy wasn't too keen on letting that happen.

"This isn't the type of environment for pesky children to be running around freely." Regina's tone become more serious. "What's the matter with you people?!" She gritted her teeth and bit her lip to keep from unleashing her fury.

"How do you know about our children?" asked Red. Red had the same curiosity as both her mother and grandmother. However, Regina didn't approve of being questioned. She gave Red the death glare. And, surprisingly, began to laugh. The laugh grew into a cackle that soon emanated throughout the entire meeting hall. The audience cringed out of fear of the queen's intentions. What was that laugh supposed to imply?

"I KNOW ALL!" she yelled, suddenly changing her tone. "I see everything that happens in this kingdom and onward!" she snapped. The large mirror that occupied the wall behind her suddenly came to hold a face. The head shook disapprovingly and quickly disappeared before anyone noticed.

" In order to give your children the solve our little predicament..." began Regina. A pause full of loud silence filled the hall. Everyone waited in anticipation.

"I'm sending them to the REAL WORLD." A collective gasp of disapproval and confusion lifted from the audience and rang out among the walls. Suddenly, the room erupted into angry chatter and commotion.

"You can't have my child!" came a voice.

"Yeah!" agreed another. "She's all I have left of Peter!"

"SILENCE!" commanded Regina, regaining order. A hush ran over the audience as they waited for her reaction.

"I knew you all would make this difficult. So I shall do things myself, and, in return, you will forget they ever existed!" Before anyone could react a cloud of purple smoke engulfed the audience. When the cloud lifted, all the visitors were in a distant slumber on the floor of the meeting hall. Waving her hand in a circular motion, she summoned a small cyclone of purple smoke to collect the children. It disappeared out of the hall window, off to fulfill its mission.

As she awaited the children, Regina removed something from behind her back. A dreamcatcher, gleaming in the afternoon sun. She then took the small contraption and wandered around the hall. Utilizing her dark magic, she activated the dreamcatcher. Throughout the hall, memories of the meeting as well as the people's children were drawn and stored. After collecting the last memory, using a quick twirl of her hand, she sent everyone back from which they came. She then instructed the guards to lock down the castle as she was going to the lake in the back courtyard.

When she arrived, the purple cyclone was already waiting. It disappeared in flurry of purple smoke and in its place stood three children. They weren't more than the age of four, and they all were in a deep slumber.

"Ugh, children." commented Regina. With a wave of her hand, she created a small vessel in which to carry the children. She placed each one into the small boat. Before sending it off, she waved her hand again. This time, another small child slept at her feet. She looked down. He was about the age of five and was somewhat small for his age. She picked him up and placed him in the boat, but unlike with the others, she began to speak.

"Valerian.." she began, staring with a small sense of compassion towards the child. "You cannot stay here. It's not safe." A single tear rolled down the queen's left cheek.

"I'm sorry it had to come to this, but I have no other choice. I had to do this to keep you safe." She removed the dreamcatcher from behind her back. "I will let you keep the memory of this distant land, but you can never remember anything about me or your father except what we look like. Same with the other children" A second tear occupied the trail the first had traveled. She then placed a scroll into the boat.

"Hopefully someone reads this when you get there. In it contains the names of you and the other children. Also, a prophecy that you will come to understand when you're older." Regina placed her hand on her son's cheek. "Goodbye." she uttered. Before sending the boat off, a large tentacle appeared out of the water. It carried a parcel and dropped it into the boat of children. The parcel turned out to be another child, with a small seashell comb clenched tightly in her left fist. The comb read 'Melody' and had the imprint of a tidal wave on the bottom.

"What's with everyone having kids these days?" Regina asked to no one in particular. She used her right hand and opened a whirlpool in the water. The water roared and gurgled in a small tunnel within the center of the lake. Before sending it off, she took brought the dreamcatcher close to her.

"It will be too painful to remember this," she said. She removed her memories of Valerian and the other children and placed the dreamcatcher in the boat. Now confused, she pushed the boat towards the open funnel before collapsing onto the lake shore.

The boat rocked toward the portal. Before disappearing to never be seen again, Valerian opened his eyes. The last thing he saw was the outline of the towering fortress before he and the other children were swallowed up by the portal. The lake once again grew calm and the air stale. Regina regained consciousness and looked out on the water.

"Why am I out here?" she said aloud. Disgusted and covered in mud, she marched back into her castle to clean up. She was a queen and she would not stand for looking like a peasant. Besides, she had an outlaw to catch.

 Valerian

"PLEASE HELP ME!" the girl shrieked. She reached her hand towards us. We all looked at each other, concern drawn upon our faces. The prophecy had warned us about the magical town. Once we entered, we could never leave...
