Fighting the walking dead

PART 1

CENTRAL OHIO 4:15 AM
Kassandra laced up her shoes. They needed to eventuate. The virus had already turned her family all except for her twin brother, Ethan, the problem was Ethan  was a mute. "ETHAN!" Kassandra screamed. He sulked down the stairs. He was already dressed and had a bag on his back. "what's in the bag?" she asked. Ethan pulled out tylonal, water bottles, canned food, blankets, a notepad, pens, sewing kit, socks, first aid kit, and extra clothes for both of them. Kassandra nodded in approval. She grabbed her bag and they walked out the door. Kassandra's  bag contained all the ammo and weapons they would need. They were heading to splatter park which changed their name to zombie park for this outbreak. Kassandra held tight to the handgun on her belt. Vivid memories of the night before flashed in her mind.
Flashback
"honey can you come here?" Mrs. Corben asked. Kassandra rushed up the stairs coming to find her father covered in blood and her mother standing over him with bloody hands. She turned to Kassandra with a murderous grin and said "run!". Kassandra screamed and her mother lunged at her. Ethan came in just in time to shoot his mother out of the air. She was at the beginning stages of turning into a zombie. Kassandra  started shaking and breathing heavily. Ethan got her medicine and inhaler and calmed her down. That's when Kassandra decided they had to go.
End flashback
Kassandra jumped and aimed the gun at the now wide eyed Ethan who had touched her shoulder. He pushed the gun down and Kassandra now noticed the tears running down her face. Ethan pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. She pushed away and kept walking. They walked for about three more miles before they saw the first zombie. It looked right at them and Kassandra grabbed Ethan and pulled him behind a tree. She took aim at the zombie and pulled the trigger. It stumbled, and fell. Kassandra looked over at Ethan and wished he would just talk just once. She pulled out her phone and noticed that they still had no service. "we should take a break," she said to Ethan. Then she sat down and decided to read old text messages.
Mom: hey honey remember to text your brother and tell him he has his band concert.
Kassandra never replied. She instantly felt bad about it. She looked at the battery and it said it was at 98%. She shut it off and stood up. "lets go!" Kassandra demanded. They left. The map said there was less than a quarter mile left until they got to the park. So they walked in an Erie silence. Kassandra's mind wandered to her friends Ellanie, Jaclynn, Sara, Anmarie, Hannah, and Blaine. Ethan tapped Kassandra on the shoulder and pointed to the sign. They made it. Kassandra checked the time 10:49am it read. They walked into the testing zone and got blood taken to see if they were infected or not. It took ten minutes to get the results. Once they came out it said....  They are both clear. They were given a room to sleep in and they both passed out.
