*Hi yawl, please dont forget to leave votes and comments plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D*

“Hey Sand, cool party, your parents still have the groove on!” I threw him an annoyed look, the party was a disaster, they even hired a clown for my twenty fifth birthday! “I can guess why you’re hiding out here, just the thing anyways I got you a cheer me up present!”

“Oh really, thanks, but it better not be something childish or you will be getting it!” I opened the carefully wrapped box to find a diamond ring settled on what seemed like a tiffany’s box, my mouth must have been hanging, because he pushed it back with his thumb.

“I take it you like it!” he said with a big grin on his face, “you can never go wrong with diamonds!”

“Oh, I am speechless!!” I fumbled with the box, my hands were shaking, he grabbed the ring and took my left hand and tried to put it on my middle finger, but the ring was too small so he placed it on my wedding finger. “It’s gorgeous!” then it hit me, I examined it carefully and sighed, “Only you!”

“What? What’s wrong now?” he asked impatiently.

“Do you know what ring this is?” I tried to remove it but it would budge

“What is it, is it not the right make or something, are you allergic to it, what?” he sounded a bit annoyed, he wasn’t the best when it came to gifts, I knew it were too good to be true, I sighed again, “what?”

“It’s an engagement ring you dumbo!! Why didn’t you ask for a normal diamond ring?”

“Oh, oops, I just told them that I wanted the most beautifully cut ten carat diamond ring for a special lady, they seemed to suggest this would give good results, I wondered why they said that, now I know!”

“Shucks, it’s stuck it won’t come off!” I put my finger in my mouth and tried to pull it out, didn’t work.

“Just keep it anyways; I don’t think people will notice!” I threw him another annoyed look, “Okay okay, I’ll help you take it off!” he put his drink aside and knelt down on one knee and struggled to get the ring off, at that precise moment, our mothers came through the library door, and stopped dead on their tracks.

“Oh my!” they both said in sync

“Er…It’s not what you think…” I started explaining, because Kirk seemed tongue tied

“Oh my, is that a diamond ring I see on your left hand?” Mom asked

“Yes but…” I tried to answer.

“Kirk did you place it on her finger?” Kirk’s mom asked

“Yes but…” Kirk tried

“And did you accept the ring Sandy?”

“Yes but…”I tried again

“Oh my Lord, this is a happy day, come let’s announce it now, while everyone is here!” My mom grabbed us and dragged us out to the crowd, despite our protests.

“Mom, wait...”

“Everyone, may I have your attention, Mrs. Mckoy and I am so pleased to announce that her son and my own daughter have just become engaged to be married!” there was a short shocked silence then a roar of cheer and congratulations flowing, people clasping our hands and shaking them vigorously, women adoring the ring, friends surprised by the news,

“Huh? Didn’t know you two were dating? How could you do it so secretly? And getting engaged? That’s a bit sneaky!”  Linda, one of my old mates, asked me after the cheer died down a little, she seemed annoyed with me, and I knew why.

“Linda, it’s not like that, this is a big misunderstanding!” but she didn’t hear it, because she left. Linda had held a torch for Kirk since the first day she met him. “This is bad, Kirk, do something!”

He looked baffled like it hadn’t kicked in yet, “what the hell can I do in front of all these people?”

“Arrg! You are no help at times!” I went in search of my mother, who was surrounded by her country club ladies.

“Yes you must hire Hilda as the wedding planner, she did a splendid job for my niece’s wedding, simple but elegant” one of the ladies was saying, “we must meet at the club to discuss the wedding plans, we ladies are here for you at times like this, the MOB is always treated as royalty” GULP, was my reaction, it was getting deeper than hoped.

“MOM, may I speak to you privately please…”

“Now Sandy May, don’t go telling your mother you don’t want a big wedding, which is completely out of the question!”

“No no its for another private matter, please excuse us” I managed to grab mom and on the way to the library, I grabbed Kirk as well, trying to un notice the fire blades Linda was throwing me, because she was talking to him when I grabbed him. Kirk’s mom joined us as well.

“What’s all this about?” Mom asked

“MOM, how could you!” I cried, “Mom, we are not engaged!”

“But I asked if that was an engagement ring and you said yes, then I asked if you accepted it and you said yes, so I don’t understand, how can you not be engaged?

“Mom, it was just a gift!” I felt a bit woozy

“I didn’t know nowadays men give women engagement rings as presents!” Kirk’s mom chimed in

“No, he meant to give me a normal diamond ring, but instead he bought an engagement ring, that’s how thick head your son is!” I sat down on a chair, more likely fell onto it.

“S, are you okay? You look pale!” Kirk was by my side he seemed to have snapped out of his daze.

“I think I’m going to faint, if this problem is not going to get fixed”

“Well why the hell was Kirk kneeling down on one knee?” Mom probed

I tried to get up “He was…trying to get the ring off my finger, it was…stuck!”

“Well you can’t expect us to go and denounce that now, it’ll be embarrassing!” Kirk’s mom chipped in

“Mom, could you please get her some water, Mrs. Lindsay, please get her some ice for her forehead and some smelling sauce, just in case.” Kirk ordered them

“See how husbandly he’s acting, really, just get married and all our problems will end…” mom said

“Now please!” Kirk said, I grabbed his shirt feeling weak on the knees

“You know, this is how I’m supposed to feel, not you!” Kirk said, “Aren’t women happy about weddings?”

“Not this one!” I shook my head, and that sent the room spinning, Kirk grabbed me as I fell backwards, I held on to him. I was just about to tell him to put me on the chair, when he surprised me with a kiss.

“Well, I don’t know why it took me this long to figure this out!” Linda said from the door and then walked out.

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?” I pushed Kirk away

“I was trying to help you back to reality, whenever I kiss you, you seem to wake up!” Kirk explained

“KIRK! Do me one favor!” I hissed

“what?”

“STOP TRYING TO HELP ME!” I walked out of the room in search of Linda, she was nowhere to be found, she must have left.

It was difficult trying to get out of all the wedding stuff and my mom practically turned deaf on the subject, and so did Kirk’s mom. Kirk was no help either. Papa would do anything to please mom, and so would Kirk’s dad do the same for his wife. I was stuck. Finding Linda to explain this big mess was a terror, most of my friends seemed to take her side when she was around, I try to explain but the fact the wedding is still being planned baffled them. In the end they cried Switzerland and helped with the wedding while comforting Linda the best they could.
