“By the power rested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride” the priest announced and a round of applause sounded as our lips touched briefly. Throughout the ceremony, I smiled and acted as a happy bride, the fact all my friends and family were there made the whole deal bearable, but it’s difficult to be happy to be married to a guy you’re not speaking to, it’s even harder to pretend he doesn’t exist! He tried talking to me and apologizing but it didn’t help, he seemed to be always doing things that put me in jeopardy. I was glad when the event was over and we were on our way to our supposed one month honeymoon.
“I told them to get us two rooms on the opposite ends, not adjoining rooms!” I shouted at the receptionist, “can’t you get me another room?”
“I’m sorry Mrs Mckoy, all the other rooms are booked up and one of the adjoining rooms was cancelled this morning, I thought you knew.”
“WHAT? Who cancelled it?”
“You did, Mrs. Mckoy” the receptionist seemed confused.
“I certainly didn’t, get me that room then; I guess it’ll have to do…”
“I’m sorry Mrs. Mckoy, the room is not available at the moment, because we re-booked it an hour after it was cancelled”
“Would you stop calling me Mrs. Mckoy! Is there another hotel on this island?”
“I’m sorry but when you called in this morning, you told me to address you as Mrs. Mckoy, and no this is the only hotel on this island, that’s why It’s full, so sorry Mrs. McK…”
“The Mrs. Mckoy you’re referring to is my mothers in law, I go by the name Sandy, call me that. So what you’re saying is that I have to share a room with him?” I indicated towards a silent stiff looking man beside me.
“I’m afraid so, I’m sorry but aren’t you newlyweds?”
“Yeah so, It doesn’t mean I actually have to share a room with him, Crap, you’re mother is really nifty, how did she know?” I addressed Kirk, and then turned back to the receptionist and by the way the receptionist looked away, she must have had a hand in it! “Fine, but as soon as a room becomes available, you let me know!”
I was fuming the whole way to our room, but that didn’t stop me from noticing the cute guys eying me as we crossed the bar later on. I smiled at them, they held a drink towards me. Kirk came and placed a possessive arm around me and steered us in the opposite direction. “Please try and refrain from flirting, you’re a married woman now!”
“In case you’ve forgotten I am not speaking to you!” I shook his arm away, and walked faster towards the dining room.
A waiter came up to us “Mr. and Mrs. Mckoy? “ When Kirk nodded, “your table’s this way.” He took us to an almost secluded table at the far end of the room, very private and romantically set, with roses and candles; there was a slight see through partition, cozy romantic set up…Mother! I sighed and sat down. The waiter handed up the menus and left.
I sighed again, “you know you don’t have to be totally unhappy about this, you’re acting like you married a moster” Kirk said after a while.
I shot him a disdained look, “I think I’m allowed to think or feel whatever I want, thank you very much!” I went back to scanning the menu, when It suddenly disappeared. “Wha…!”
