“Molly? Mol, wake up!” She groaned when she heard the familiar voice of Kyle in her ear.
“Go away,” she muttered, rolling over again. Then he poked her in the cheek. Once. Twice. Three times. He pulled on a lock of her hair, hard. Molly's eyes snapped open when his fingers tightened on her nose, clamping over her mouth. Shoving him off and wheezing in some oxygen, Molly glared stonily at her best friend.
“Ever heard of beauty sleep?”
“Honey, you're gonna need more then that to look beautiful.” Kyle teased.
“You were the one hit by the ugly stick, buddy.”
“You got hit by the whole damn, tree, my girl.”
“Oh piss off.” Molly scowled, wincing when she rubbed her neck. It was still tender, which meant she must have marks on it. “How bad does it look?” She asked Kyle, tilting her head up so he could poke and prod at it.
“It's turtle neck material.” Molly groaned, throwing her legs onto the floor and stretching as she stood.
“Aaron seemed a little worried when you just disappeared into her when you got back last night.” Kyle commented when she shrugged on a pair of jeans. Kyle had seen her undressed before, so it was no big deal to her.
“Over his little Whitney? Yeah, I noticed.” Molly grumbled, pulling on a blank singlet top and a green long shirt, open at the front, on. She yanked on her shoes and pulling her blond locks into a hair tie at the top of her head.
“Ready for breakfast?” She asked before he could say anything else on the subject. She had only known the girl two days and she already really didn't like her. Maybe it had something to do with Aaron, but most of it was the feeling she got every time she was around her. And where the hell was her brother, Rory? She hadn't seen him since yesterday at breakfast.
Kyle loaded up two plates of oatmeal as they sat at their usual table with a group of the other girls and boys. Molly ate in silence. She was already thinking about the raid they were going to do that night, starting near one of the parks. There had been sightings of the infected there, and their nurse, Tory, had been studying the works of the body and how medicine effected it before the war started. She had come through with an experimental drug that would hopefully reverse the virus before it seeped to far into the human body. Hence the reason for the stun guns, you couldn't exactly heal a dead person, they weren't immortal.
Once Molly had finished, she picked up hers and Kyle's plate, washing, drying and putting them away. It was the routine. But normally there were three plates she cleaned.
“Hey,” She heard Aaron's voice beside her, and it made her jump.
“Hi.” She said quietly, keeping her eyes on the plate she had wrapped in a tea towel.
“I just wanted to know how you're feeling, Mol. You know, from last night and all.”
Oh, so know he asks.
“I'm fine! Thanks anyway.” Molly smiled brightly, hoping it would throw him off. It didn't.
“You don't like them, do you?”
“Is it that obvious?”
“Molly, they're not bad people. I know it's hard for you, trusting others. Trust me on this one, they're not the enemy.”
Molly narrowed her eyes, watching the sincerity in his eyes. He really thought they weren't dodgy.
“Okay, I'll try.” Molly finally sighed, and Aaron smiled, a smile she had only ever saw him use around...well, her.
