The people Molly had become inseperable with didn't believe her. The one's Molly called family didn't believe her. Not even Molly was completely sure of herself. But one thing was certain. She had been accused of everything she would never do in a million years. She felt fresh tears hit her cheeks, but she wiped them away before she felt too weak.
She wasn't mad anymore. She was just tired. It was the early hours of the morning, and her mind had been like a hive, constantly busy. Questions, problems, accusations. How could her own people turn against her like this?
It must have been around two am when the revelation hit her. Ever since Whitney had shown up, she had been nothing but a muck-up, constantly stuffing up on missions, then she started seeing things. The guy she loved thought she was a two-faced bitch and even her best friend, who knew her better then she knew herself, wasn't sure of her.
She was leaving. Sure, it would make her look guilty of the accusations, but the pain and taunting from the others sure would be easier to handle when she wasn't near them.
Sitting up when the sun started to peek over the horizon, Molly winced at her wound. But she felt more pain in her heart then physically. She packed up her small amount of clothes, put in two extra handguns and four knifes, plus a bigger rifle. Stuffing her feet into her boots, she stood carefully, checking her bag for the kit of first aid they all kept.
Walking out of the room and towards the gym with her chin held high, Molly marched right into the large room and stopped in the middle. Chatter and laughter halted and you could have heard a pin drop when all eyes gravitated towards her. She saw Kyle step forward, but Aaron held him back, staring at her with wide-eyes.
"What are you doing up?" Aaron asked, his gaze uneasy, like he'd been re-thinking what he said yesterday and was sorry about it. Well tough shit. Molly held his gaze, willing herself not to look away, and forced her voice to appear strong.
"I'm leaving."
Audible gasps could be heard from everyone in the room. Conor stood, his face showing nothing but expressionless indifference from his impressive military training, but his eyes held concern, almost alarm.
"What do you mean?" Aaron said, eyeing the bag on her shoulder. She hitched it higher, and stared him bold in the eye when she next talked.
"It means I'm leaving the compound, and you all won't have to worry about me spying or sneaking or whatever anymore. You all made yourselves very clear, and I thank you for helping me make the decision." Molly glanced around the crowd, and saw nothing but shocked faces. She some of saw her old school friends, gaping at her. She saw the nurse, white and stricken with worry. And Kyle, who looked posiively outraged.
"You are not! You're needed here." Aaron said, half yelling, stepping forward. Molly barked out a laugh, one that told everyone she thought his words were a crock of shit.
"Yeah, I was really needed last night, when everyone thought I would actually do something like that. I'm not cold-blooded."
"You're still not leaving, we'll sort this mess out Mol-" Aaron's voice was bordering panicky, and Conor was approaching slowly, his eyes nit missing a thing.
"You still don't believe I'm innocent, even when you're telling me to stay. And you know what?" Molly looked around at everyone again, turning in a slow circle, holding everyone's eye contact until they looked down or away. Her stare was on Kyle for longer, and he was shaking his head slightly, like a silent 'don't go.'
"I was the one who needed you all last night. I got shot. I nearly died. And I wake to accusations, not relieved friends. I needed you. And you weren't there. You stuck up for another person who we don't even know well. And that makes my decision final." Molly was patting herself on the back mentally, proud that her voice hadn't yet cracked once. The crowd hung their heads, ashamed.
"Molly, you can't go, there's infected out there-" Kyle pleaded, stepping forward, shoving Aaron away. Molly shook her head, stepping back again, and smiled sadly.
"I'd rather be out there, not needed, then in her, not wanted." Molly turned on her heel, and felt someone latch onto her arm, spinning her roughly.
Aaron was inches from her faces, his features angry. "Are you crazy?" He hissed, shaking her slightly, "You'll get killed!"
"I've only ever been crazy for one thing." Molly said, and watched him process what she said, understanding dawning in his eyes. "But that doesn't matter anymore, does it Aaron? Because you especially, don't want me, and screw you if you think I'd actually hang around." Molly hissed back. Aaron's eyes flashed dangerously, his fingers digging into her skin through her jacket.
"You can't go, Molly I l-" She yanked away, and saw Kyle lunging for her. She stepped backwards, holding her hands at her sides.
"I guess this is goodbye."
"You can't go! It's dangerous!" Kyle shouted, just as Conor grabbed him around the waist and looked at Molly. She held his gaze, then he nodded, sighing and closing his eyes. He understood. Aaron stood, frozen, shocked, his face contorted in pain.
"Wait!" Another voice said, and the crowd parted to reveal Rory.
"I'm coming."
Molly didn't have it in her to fight him, no matter how scary he seemed. She would rather he killed her away from here, and if he was going to try, she at least would have died believing in herself.
"Okay." Molly nodded, and waited until rory was beside her, before returning her gaze to the crowd.
"Have a nice life." Molly smiled sadly, feeling the tears threatening to fall. She turned quickly, ignoring the shouts and grunts of the people and pushed her way outside and to her bike, Rory right beside her. It wasn't until she was on and speeding down the road when the tears began to fall. But she kept shaking. She kept shaking like she had hyypothermia, until the point where Molly wondered if the tremors would ever stop.
