It was a normal Sunday afternoon in the Avengers tower. The weather called for thunderstorms and boy was it delivered. You were sitting in your normal spot on off days; the tower's personal library. The window seat was your favorite. It had a small couch in front of it (put there by your request to Tony) that you loved curling up in to read your newest book.
At the moment, your book wasn't new. No, you'd picked this off the shelf many times before. It was The Notebook written by Nicholas Sparks. This had always been your go to book for romance since your love life was as dry as the Nevada deserts. The library was full of sappy romance novels, instruction manuals, encyclopedias, etc, but this was always what you turned to. It was a classic boy meets girl and girl plays hard to get.
You'd been sitting there reading for god only knows how long; immersed in the story. You started reading it right after breakfast so you'd only been there a few hours at most. Being so immersed, you hadn't heard the door open or the footsteps walking towards you. As you turned your page, you were severely startled by a deep accented voice.
"What are you reading?" it asked as pressure was set against the back of the couch.
You jumped, causing your book to fly out of your hands, landing a few feet away from your seated location. The voice sighed and walked towards the book, allowing you to see Loki wearing his casual clothes; a deep green quarter inch sleeve t-shirt and black jeans.
"Loki! What have I said about sneaking up on me?!" you squeaked out.
"You're an agent. You would think you'd be more attentive, no?" he said turning around and walking towards you, book in hand.
You stayed quiet as he handed it back to you, continuing to speak.
"And what have I said about using that tone with me?"
"Not to. Yet look at us! Here we are and here I am telling a god what to do." you said sarcastically.
"You're a very brave mortal. Speaking to me in such a way." he pointed out, sitting on the cushion next to you.
"It's almost as if I'm not scared of you! What a concept, right?" you stated then opened your book, trying to find the last page you were on.
Loki and Thor had come to visit the tower quite often since you had joined the team. After understanding that Loki was under the control of the tesseract, everyone kind of forgave him for what he did but was still cautious of him for good reasons. You had met Thor long before his brother however. Thor wanted to be treated the same way you treated your normal friends or "mortal friends" as he referred to them as. You had heard plenty about Loki and what he was like but it didn't phase you. You treated him the way you would treat Thor but with more attitude. He gave it to you, why not give it back? You knew that if it really bothered him that a "mere mortal" addressed a god in such a way, he would do something about it other than arguing with you back and forth. He actually came to bother you quite often. Not in the intentional way of being annoying but in the way where you knew he looked for you. Your lack of fear towards him enticed him. It made him want to be around you more. He would never admit that he had feelings for a mortal woman but it was true and everyone but you knew it. You held a fascination for the god himself. Hence why you never complained when he hung around you. In all honesty, you enjoyed his presence. He was quiet around others, besides his snarky remarks that is, but loved having intellectual conversations about your favorite literature among other things. It wasn't like he was bad looking either and you'd be lying to yourself if you said his voice made chills run down your spine. He would sit in silence in your presence in the library when you read. He would have his own book of course; usually something you recommended. That was an honor in itself considering he didn't value other's opinions. He didn't have a book this time however. Instead, he just sat there while you skimmed pages looking for your place. When you had found it finally, you began reading silently, your legs tucked into your chest, book setting on top of your knees. After turning to the next page, you heard a deep sigh; obviously trying to capture your attention. You gave in after the third sigh.
