Love's Joy
Chapter 1Monday morning. As I walk towards the main road on the middle town. I pass through some of the people who, just like me, are struggling everyday to gain money to live for tomorrow. I was just a bit lucky to finish high school through scholarship and find jobs on the upper town. And when I say jobs, its literally in the plural form. I work three jobs to support myself everyday and to save money for my two goals in life: to buy a violin of my own and to apply for music scholarship to be able to graduate and improve myself in the field of music.
So I guess, that means I'm not in the poorest of the poor anymore. I made atleast two or three steps leaving behind that nasty title I hold for too long.
Our city is divided into three areas: the downtown, middle town and the upper town. At the downtown, lives the poor people, the ones who, if ever they can, barely support themselves and their family. There were even the ones who picked to live there because the housing rent is cheaper than that of the cheapest room in the middle town. But mostly, those who lived in the deepest of the downtown is either orphan, jobless, uneducated, ex-convict, addicts or the criminals and their hideouts. Lucky for me that I managed to have jobs and be able to rent a room of my own. Even a rundown building in the downtown can produce a good shelter if you want to. Next is the middle town, as the name implies, those who are ranked as the middle class people lived there, even those who are just trying hard to pay their rent are in the middle town, just to say that they're middle class people. A wide, old bridge that looked like it was build a thousand year ago separates the two areas from one another. And lastly, the upper town wherein you need to pass through a tall wall with a widest gates ever seen and lots of guards guarding, searching and inspecting everyone whi enters the area. There lived the upper class people, meaning, those who need the people below them to hire, those with lots and even tons of money they don't know how to spent it anymore, those who are talented and have great contribution for the city-such as sports representatives and business partner's relatives. Also those who have ranks economically or in the government are living there. Those who are receiving atleast 20,000 a month are the lowest of them but are counted as upper townsmen.
Terrific place, huh? That's what this hellish place is. A place where your worth, talent, ability and personality is judged by how much your income is.
That's the reason why I don't want to stay on this city. I want to study and make a name in the music world to be able to move out from this place. Just few more months and I am able to buy that violin and apply for the music school scholarship.
I looked at my cheap and old wrist watch, I have thirty more minutes before my first job. I entered the music instrument shop by the highway in the middle town.
When I opened the door, the chimes sounded and the manager of the shop looks at me.
"Oh! It's just you David." Said the old man.
"Expecting someone early in the morning, Steve?" I replied to him as I walk towards him who's wiping out the dust on the counter. I helped him arrange the chairs and wipe out the dust on the piano.
"Thank you David. I don't know how could I possibly wipe that big thing here." Steve points to the grand piano I just finish wiping out. Steve is the old manager of this instrument shop which I visit almost everyday. He's kinda small and a slow motion man, maybe because of his age.
"Wanna play before you go?" Steve ask me and handed me my future violin. Yes, my future violin, I contracted him not to sell this violin because I am planning to buy it. Just a bit more time. I nodded at Steve's offer and starts playing the violin.
Liebesfreud. A beautiful piece to start the day.
