Normal P.O.V

School for the girls were typical. Lessons here and there. Homework. They rarely ever had a chance to talk outside of class. After a few weeks they naturally became friends. Alex would forget her books on purpose and Mitchie would always be her partner on those occasions. But the school year was ending, and summer was going to begin. Both girls had birthdays in the summer so they instinctively offered the other an invitation. Alex's birthday came up first, nothing really big happened. A house party of sorts; eight and nine year olds running all over the place. But when it came to Mitchie's birthday, it was different. A lot different actually.

Age 8, Alex's P.O.V

My mom had given me money to buy a birthday card for Mitchie. She walked me to the store and everything just to pick the perfect one. Mitchie didn't have many friends, she seemed scared of our classmates. Justin tagged along with me just because he thought it'd be fun to 'help,' as he called it.

"Oh look sweetie, this one is pink and...," my mom placed a card in front of me.

"Mitchie doesn't like pink."

"Okay, how about this bright yellow one, it has a princess on it."

"Gag fest," I scoffed, rolling my eyes in the process before walking away. Justin had been in the toy aisle for a while now, sword fighting some boy with weird hair and skinny pants. "Um Justin," I turned to my brother. "This isn't helping."

"Its helping me. This boy showed me these cool swords." Justin hit my leg with the one in his hand. "You're dead now Alex."

"From a leg wound?" I asked. "Not likely."

"It's the fifteen hundreds."

"Then it'll get infected first," I pushed my brother out of my way as the boy next to him walked towards me.

"This really is a pretty cool sword though. It can light up to three different colors, and it comes with a carrying bag to..."

"Who are you?" I turn my nose up at him.

"Zeke. I'm a level four gargoyle in..."

"Bored now." I snatched his sword as his eyes went big. Justin began to complain behind me, so I grabbed his too. "I'll buy these."

"Mom gave you money for cards, not weapons."

"Justin, mind your own business." I walked away from the two boys as they continued to complain. They were stupid. It wasn't like these were the only two in the store. I found my mom as she waved a new card in front of me.

"This one is pretty nice, and it isn't pink or yellow. It has red words and..."

"I'll take it," I said before she could finish.

"Alex where are you going with those toys?"

"To the register."

"I'm not sure if Mitchie's mother would want her daughter to have those."

"Then her mom is lame." I placed the swords onto the moving belt and grabbed the card from my mom. "I bought my own money from...my private stash," I bragged, "so I'll be paying for these."

"Where did you get forty dollars from?"

"A place," I grinned.

"Alex!" Although my mom was still talking, I paid for my items and handed them to her.
