A monotone beeping awoke me from my slumber. I twisted my head to the side and noted the needle sticking unceremoniously from my bare arm. White blankets and walls adorned myself and the room.

"He-hello?" I called, feeling the rough, dry feeling of a raw throat.

A nurse popped her head into the room. Her mouth popped open and she retreated.

"Exsuse me, ma'am?" I asked weakly. But she was gone.

Probably getting a doctor, I thought.

I was proved correct when he opened the door to my room and walked in, a huge fake smile on his face.

"Good evening!" he told me. He pulled out a clipboard and scribbled something down.

"How long was I out?" I asked groggily.

His smile faltered a little. "Only two days, ma'am."

"Okay... What happened?"

"It looks as though a shark attacked you. But you weren't near any source of salt water." He scribbled something else on his clipboard.

"When do I get out?"

"Uhm... About two weeks. As long as you don't move around too much, the stitches won't break and you'll be able to leave." He smiled. "You're lucky. The worst part is your leg where the skin was ripped away slightly. It'll hurt, but you must not move it."

A nurse walked in with a small tray of food. They left me to eat.

The Sun was warm on my skin. A fresh breeze wafted the delicious smell of food to my poor, deprived nostrils. People hustled around, happy, and carried their goods or rested in the shade. Children ran around, pulling their parents to countless shops and stalls.

In my stay at the hospital, I had been informed I was at the Village Hidden in the Leaves, or Konaha. The leader of the village, the Hokage, had told me of the customs here as well as the ninja. I, in turn, had explained what happened in Florida and how it appeared I was now in another world.

We debated, and a teacher at the academy called Iruka had been pulled in. We reached the decision I should be tested for ninja abilities and saw to if I should join the academy next year when it reopened for new students or if I should be put on a squad since it wasn't too long since the graduation exam.

Today, I was to find the academy and Iruka-sensei. The Hokage sent Kurenai-sensei with me. Beforehand, she'd been instructed to get some clothing for me.

I had nothing flashy or showy, just some easy cargo pants with a loose gray shirt with a pouch of kunai and shuriken on my (dominant hand) leg.

The academy came into view and we entered. Our footsteps echoed loudly in the empty halls until we reached Iruka-sensei's room.

He was sitting behind his desk, arms crossed and faxing across the room. He had brown hair pulled into a ponytail, tan skin, and a scar across his nose. He smiled at us when we entered.

"Good day," he said happily, standing from his seat.

I nodded and stayed silent.

"So! Let's get started!" He pulled out some targets from his desk as Kurenai-sensei sat in the seats of the classroom. He led me out to a new room before he clipped them up and led me a distance away. "We're gonna see how good you are with basic ninja tools."

I nodded again and pulled out a kunai. The target was twenty feet away. I held an arm out in front of me like my father had showed me for throwing knives. I slowed my breathing and threw the blade. It stuck a little outside the center.
