The thoughts going through my head were regretful, all the shameful things I did since I joined the force,
*hiding evidence
*buying information
*taking bribes
*stealing from the inventory
*negotiating with the criminals
The list goes on really... but... this tops the list of THE most stupid things I have done in the run-up to my promotion, yes..., me the head of division one fired my weapon at a civilian. My head started pounding at the thought of what punishment awaited me, 'come!' shouted a voice from behind the door. I slither my way into the office of the deputy commissioner and bow my head before him, 'I apologise for my unruely actions, but in my defence I didnt injure the civilian and...' I was cut off,
'You!...' he screemed before glancing through the glass of his office cubicle to see staff alert toward him, he tuts before lowering his voice and continuing 'have injured a member of the public, this damages the polices' reputation, not to mention the fact we are supposed to protect the public, so now one; we look like a laughing stock, and two; we will be distrusted more',
'Just cover it up' I beg,
'Elaine, it's already blew up all over the various media platforms, it cannot be covered up' he retorts, I sigh,
'Whats my punishment then' I sound defeated, I could continue this arguement however that wouldn't really be benefitial to me,
'Take this case, thats all I ask' he throws the case file to me, which I skillfully catch, no problem.I leave the office whistling happily to myself, but something is nagging me in the back of my mind, this seems to be a lax punishment. My curiousity takes the win in my mind boxing match, I flip the case file to face me... my mind starts to wander "wait what this easy case for division one, no way."
I storm into division one, 'someone is upset' giggles Roy,
'How about I cut you open and turn your insides out!' I sneer at him,
'The punishment was that severe?' He questioned playfully,
'Worse' I say handing him the case file whilst rolling my eyes. He looks it up and down then bursts out laughing, he laughs so hard he actually starts crying forcing Madeliynn to come out of her office,
'Can someone please shut that hideous laughter up?' She says side eyeing him,
'But look at our top dogs case' he snickers as he pases the case file to Madeliynn, she looks at it before joining in laughing,
'Hard case that' she grins slapping me on the sholder and tossing the case file into my arms,
'Ohh, come to think of it theres a flower shop nearby so can you get me some carnations whilst your at it?' She sarcastically pleads, I throw her a grimmacing look.I, Elaine Richards, was about to be the laughing stock of the force, such a simple case given to me the number one elite detective of the homicide division.
I got up early the next morning, I figured that if I was going to do this case it had best be done fast, I jumped out of bed, falling onto my rug as my foot slipped on my water bottle. I was having such bad luck already. I dragged my body off the floor and proceeded to the shower. I picked out my outfit last night so luckily that was done, however I had to read the case file on this "robbery" as I didn't really know where in the hellhound I had to go.
I sat down on my bed and picked up the case file, just like yesterday, this case I felt was just too easy for division one, how was sweets being stolen a hard case?, I mean one of the neighbour hood kids probably did it, I pondered a little more. With my mind not getting anywhere I decided to just go visit the crime scene, I scrawl down the address in my notebook half-heartedly tossing it into my bag. I grab my keys and head for the door, as I got to the door I flicked the home alarm on, stepped out and locked up behind me.
I go to the street and pull my car keys out from my bag and clicked the unlocking key, stepping into my car I tap the address into the navigation system, with that done I start the car and off I drive, to the most simplistic case I have ever seen.
Boy was I wrong though... this case was not simple AT ALL and that became apparent as soon as I stepped into that fruity smelling sweet shop.
