“One of the guys”

It’s one of the phrases that’s been used to describe me countless times. All my best friends are guys. I’ve never had a female friend, maybe that’s because I won’t put up with their bullshit about how they want to wear their hair or the drama that goes on between them about liking guys and other crap, but who knows? Anyway, I’ve been described as “Sporty” and “badass” or “Geeky” and “Smart”, but never “Pretty” or “Beautiful”. But hey, I’m fine with that... At least that’s what I thought at first... It’s funny how moving across country can change your perspective on life so drastically...

So, I think I should start from the beginning, to give you a feel for things. I’ll start with the day that completely changed my life.

“Sam, duck,” I heard my friend James yell from behind me. Immediately, I got low and rolled ahead of me. To my right, I noticed yellow movement as i was rolling. When my velocity stopped and I was upright again, I shot where the movement was and heard an “Oh shit” as my neon  green paintball hit some guy straight in the chest. I mumbled James a “thanks” and moved on. He and I were the only people left on our team ‘cuz my best friend Grayton and my other friend Joel just HAD to go and get themselves shot, Grayton on the chest and Joel right in the balls. It would’ve been insanely funny (believe me, I would’ve rolled around on the floor for atleast a minute)  if it weren’t the beginning of the match and if i didn't get out of there, i would’ve gotten MY ass kicked. Anyway, now that i had gotten the last yellow, it was just us, a red and two blues. I had seen the red earlier, when we were running away from our starting points. He was going to be an easy target, looked about 90 pounds., and was basically a stick with a gun. The blues on the other hand would be a challenge. They’ve been enemies of mine for a while. Their names are Reece and Braydon and they went to our rival school. My friends and I had met them a while back when I started playing football. I can still remember the reason I started hating them. In the beginning of seventh grade, the first game we had was against them. Our team’s coach had picked me for seventh grade captain, along with Grayton, and we had to go up to the refs and stuff before the game and flip the coin and stuff. So, when we were done with that (we had our helmets off when we met because of some stupid thing that ‘It’s rude’), Braydon came up to me as I was walking away, slapped my ass, and said,

“Good luck, sexy,”

I rolled my eyes at the memory of us creaming them that game. Suddenly, snapping out of my flash-back, I was pushed out of the way by James and I saw a blue paintball slam into a tree behind where I had just been.

“Sam, where’s your head today?!” he said, slapping my helmet around a bit. I punched him in the arm in reply and got up to see Reece smirking from across the field at me. The first thought that crossed my mind was “SHOOT MOTHERFUCKER”, but then my second thought was “Wait where’s Braydon?” I quickly glanced to my right (Reece’s left) and saw a slight movement of neon blue moving quickly towards me. Idiot. I whispered to James,

“Get Reece, I got Braydon,” He nodded and ducked off to our left. From behind the rock I was stationed behind, I set my aim just in front of where the slight blue was and got ready to shoot. Suddenly, I see another paintball hit the rock right next to my head. Red. I looked at where the ball had come from to see a scared shitless guy in red and shot him with no hesitation. I turned back to see Braydon just breaking the tree line and scrambled to shoot. Oddly enough, he didn’t look ready to shoot either and we both ended up shooting at the same time. We both missed. before realization had crossed his features that we both had missed our targets, I had already shot another one to hit him right in the helmet. I smirked as his face dropped. He then laughed and said, taking off his helmet to reveal striking green eyes and dark brown hair,
