With pure white hair, I've always been the awkward sore thumb of the DWMA. I hardly ever spoke as a child, but when I did, I was shushed immediantly for my profane thoughts and beliefs. I was told that normal children shouldn't be having these thoughts. I was told I was dangerous. That I shouldn't be aloud to attended Death's Weapons and Meisters Academy. They just didn't understand...
"Come on! Wake up, Stein!" My partner, Spirit Albarn, yelled at me. He shook my arm, "Wake up! I'm not going to be late because you won't get out of bed!" He turned on his heel, cussing under his breath, and headed towards the door.I stared out the window above my bed, watching the lazy sun crawl across the sky. Eventually, I did pull myself out of bed. It was like this every morning lately. I didn't wake up to my alarm, so I would sleep in, and Spirit would have a heart attack every day. It was a new policy of our first period professor that every weapon and meister must have their partner when coming to class.
I smoothed my white stitched shirt out, plucking small lint fuzz off of the hem. I ran a hand through my hair attempting to at least try to look presentable. I turned out of my room and leaned against my doorway, waiting for Spirit.
"Spirit, we can't keep all of your girlfriends waiting. What will you do if you can't see Kami today?" I teased. I was studying my finger nails as Spirit ripped open the door.
"Shut it, Franken Stein!" Spirit shouted as he continued to comb his ruby red hair. His emerald eyes were impatiently crossing the hallway. He dropped his comb in the bathroom and started to quickly walk to the front door. "We need to get going, now."
I often teased him like so. Kami was a girl Spirit had loved ever since his first day at the DWMA. Her soul was innocent but hot-tempered; much like Spirits. Their soul wave lengths clicked together, even if neither of them realized it.

"Hey! Look, it's the boy that can see souls!" a girl shouted from the back of the class as Spirit and I walked in. The small girl grabbed her partners hand and pulled her down the steps towards us. The first girl pulled her blonde friend closer to us.
"Hey, Franken, can you read our soul wave lengths?" the first girl spat. I shuddered slightly. She was obviously new to the DWMA. This is one of the first times someone went out of their way just to talk to me. I was socially awkward since the moment I was born.
"Wh-What?" I stuttered in shock. "It-It doesn't work like that...!"
The girl shifted closer, "What do you mean? Can't you just peek in at our souls? Or-"
"Girls, girls, girls. He doesn't take requests. If you want your soul wave length read, you'll have to take it up with Lord Death." Spirit quickly intervened. He knew how much I hated that question.
The girl crossed her arms and stomped back up the steps to her chair. She left her partner standing in front of us. Her partner, wasn't actually her partner either. It was Marie Mjolnir. A girl who was in our age group. Her long-ish blonde hair curled to her mid back and tamed her bangs to stay just above her caramel-brown eyes. Her soul was calm and healing almost, opposed to mine and Spirits. Like a child's I guess you'd say. Marie was partnered to the big-shot of our school, Laine. They weren't exactly the best partnership, given that Marie has only captured 3 of 99 souls needed to become a death scythe.
"I'm s-sorry, Stein. Paula tends to over-react about these sort of things..." Marie awkwardly spoke. She couldn't look me in the eye. I just labeled it as she was afraid of me...everyone else was after all.
"Take your seats!" A Professor yelled from the head of the class. Everyone in the entire room, jumped or shifted into their chairs, including Spirit and I. The obtuse woman at the head of the class marched to board and scribbled word after word on to it. The chalk was falling to a stoop, making screeching sounds as her nails touched the board. Many students covered their ears.
Spirit nudged my shoulder about halfway through first period, "Hey, Stein, do you think Kami is checking me out?"
I looked over his shoulder, down the line at the other students. At the end of the row of desks was a group of girls, shh-ing and giggling at each other. In the center was Kami.
Kami was undeniably attractive. She kept her blonde hair at shoulder length and her sparkling blue eyes, just like her soul, was always smiling. She was at the top of our class. She got 100% on every test ever given to her. Also, she proved to be a pretty damn good meister too. I didn't blame Spirit for liking her. I noticed she kept stealing peeks at us.
I chuckled at Spirit, "I'm not sure."
"well..." Spirit looked discouraged, "Can't you read her soul or something?"
I went back to sketching on the side of my paper, "You guys just don't get it. I can see souls, I can't read minds. Seeing souls isn't that big of a deal anyway..."
Spirit folded his arms, "It is when you're the only one that can see 'em...."

The urge was starting again. The urge to dissect. The urge that has traveling my mind for years. The one thing that separated me from every other kid; the endless lust for experimentation and dissection.
I waited for the moon to reach a midnight ark before I slowly slid out of my bed. The buzzing in my ears wasn't helping my thoughts.... it only encouraged them. I stepped lightly to my dresser drawer, pulling it ever-so slowly open.
I fingered through my knives and other dissection tools, searching for just the right one. My hand was drawn to a special knife this night. One that I hardly used. A shiny, glass-like blade that was almost sharp to look at.
I pocketed my needle and thread to patch the wound I was about to create, and crept out my doorway.
The house was silent. The only sound in my ears was my faint footsteps and Spirits deep slumber. Perfect, I thought to myself. He's asleep.
When I was in Spirits room, I slowly creaked the door shut. Spirit, thankfully, was a deep-sleeper. He never woke up during my dissections. He was twisted into his blankets like a pig in a puddle of mud. I waited for him to stop squirming before I slowly peeled the blanket off of his abdomen. It felt awkward to be lifting another man's shirt off his body but it had to be done.
The small stitches and scars around Spirits stomach from my past experiments were starting to fade. Before I started a new cut, I felt that it was my duty to remove the small strings from Spirits gut. I dragged the threads out of the skin after scraping them with my blade. I put the remains under Spirits mattress crease with the other ones.
I took an excited deep breath before pressing the knife lightly to Spirits skin; about two inches above his naval. The sight of the blood trickling across his skin excited me. Life was an experiment in my eyes. I was born for the dissections and experiments across the world. I wiped the blood from Spirits stomach with the corner of his shirt.
As I sawed away at Spirits skin and probed around inside, he stayed still and calm. He was so innocent and defenseless....The perfect reason for me to cut him open.
I am DWMA Meister Stein. The boy without God.
