Zoey’s hair is sprawled out across her pillow and her legs are hugging another pillow. My arm is still draped around her, but she’s turned away from me. I laugh at how cute she is.

“Why are you laughing at me?” she grumbles.

“You’re like a tornado,” I say.

“Shut up.” She rolls over to face me and rolls her eyes at my smirk.

“I thought I was the moody one.”

“You are, no doubt.”

“Looks like you are too.” I stand up and throw my hair in a ponytail before walking into the kitchen. I’m starving, but there’s not much food here, so I guess I’ll have to go out and get us something.

“I’ll cook,” Zoey says, walking into the room with me. She digs through the fridge and cabinets and I just stand back and watch her, wearing a smirk. She prepares pancakes and eggs for us. This girl is honestly too good for me, but I knew that from the first moment I laid eyes on her.

“So, what are you doing today?” she asks casually.

“I dunno,” I reply and stuff a bite into my mouth.

“Tony invited me to go to the beach.”

“What? He didn’t say anything to me.”

“Yeah… just me and him.”

I narrow my eyes and drop my fork onto my plate. Just them? So, she’s going on a date with him? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised; they haven’t kept their hands off of each other for three seconds since they met. “No,” is all I respond with.

“I can’t just tell him no.”

“Yes you can. God, you don’t have to be so damn nice all the time.”

“Jenna-”

“Go on your date; I don’t care.”

“It’s not a date.” She grabs my hand but I pull it away.

“Fuck off.” I storm into in my room and slam the door. Maybe I’m overreacting; I usually do, but I can’t help it. I just got her and now I’m losing her to Tony. This is bullshit. The front door slams and I run out of my room to find the kitchen empty. Outside, she’s nowhere to be found. I hiss cuss words under my breath and kick the sidewalk.

“What are you doing?”

I spin around to see her standing there. “I thought you left.”

“No; I was just giving you your space.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I get it, I do. But I can’t just blow off my friends.”

“Okay.” I rub my face and exhale loudly. “But I’m calling Jake and we’re all going.”

“Okay.”

I huff and walk back inside and let her follow. This day is going to be torturous. I have to sit there while he rubs his hands all over her and pretend I don’t care. All because she’s too nice to stand up for herself. She can be sassy as hell, so I don’t know why she can’t just tell him off.

We decide to skip the beach and walk downtown instead. On the strip there are tons of little shops and parlors. Jake keeps giving me smirks and when we sit down to drink our slushies he stares at me with a big smile.

“Stop smiling at me,” I snap.

“Is Zoey wearing your favorite shirt?” he teases.

My eyes go to Zoey whose cheeks have a red tint to them as she stares at me. “I let her borrow it.” I shrug.
