Prologue – The Beginning

"You can't do this!" The woman in the grey gown screeched, her long, pointed nails leaving marks on the stone from her iron grip.

Her hands shook as she shifted on to her left foot. Holding the same position for days with no relief, the woman felt uncomfortable. Weak. Something she chided herself for.

Wishing it would soon be over she prayed to the Gods. It was deemed as a coward’s way out but desperation was skin deep. And she was foolish enough to try. Leaving the child behind wasn’t an option.

The child with dark, dark hair and equally dark eyes.

Eyes lightened by green and gold flecks. Bewitching.

Eyes that could already sense the darkness in the world like they contained.

She wouldn’t leave her. The woman tipped her chin up, she would fight until her last breath.

"I have no choice. You broke the protocols that we had sworn not to ever break." The Warrior Lady paced in front of her with her hands folded behind her back.

"Never." She concluded, letting the word hang between them. The air shrouded in silence until the woman found the courage to speak.

"No! I won't let you." The woman attempted to sound strong but her voice came out in a quivering mess. Her heart thumped loudly within her chest and her sweaty palms urgently gripped the statue that her life depended on. The statue was delicate, made out of the oldest, finest, colossal bronze. She was certain it would've crumbled under her weight if not for the protection surrounding it. Protection given by the oldest beings existing. It would play a large role in the future as it did now.

Long ago she would've destroyed without hesitation. And she would’ve succeeded if only it hadn't reminded her of herself.  Crafted and melded into perfection by those long forgotten. Like her it was an ancient.

Her lips pulled up in a pitying smile. It was also one of the only things that stayed the same, throughout history. Unlike her.

They had warned her that the world is a cruel place and time was only making it worse. She didn't however imagine how heart-wrenching the truth could be.

That is, until it was too late.

"It's time," whispered the Warrior Lady, turning to face the other side of the ruins. "Goodbye, my friend."

The woman closed her eyes and waited for the end.
