New Welcoming

The old mansion had been there before Oakley Falls was built. It's a 15th century, 4-story castle that's surrounded by a high metal fence with a chunky lock on the gates. Just thinking about it sent chills down my spine.

But it's part of our town. Our character and describes the towns personality. Or so says Meghan Banks.
She's really into history and poetry. Sometimes I wonder how we've been best friends for this long. Everyone had abandoned me at that point. Literally. I'm adopted by my sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Elizabeth. I technically know my parents, from bits of what my sister has said, but nothing that will ever give me enough information to formally know them.

"Lia!"

Elizabeth was calling me.

I hopped off my grey fluffy sheets and ran down the attic steps.

No, she didn't lock me up like cinderella in a dusty old attic with no heat. I chose the attic to get away from everything else, and it's quite peaceful. It smells like lavender and pines. Probably due to all the candles I have lying on the shelves. The wood is a dark chocolate color and the walls are a very light grey. Contrast is good, right? I added dark red curtains to the window above my desk and the book nook, which is my favorite spot! The wall nearest to the book nook is lined in shelves of my most valuable reads. It's so easy to make a cup of coffee and curl up to read, especially with a wonderful view of the woods in our backyard. See why it's my favorite spot?
My room is super mellow and kind of indie, not many bright or neon colors.

Elizabeth was checking off a list when I reached the kitchen. I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl that sat on the counter and took a big, juicy bite.

"We need to go to the fresh market." she said while hastily scribbling on her note pad.

"Why can't Terry go with you? I was planning to see Meghan soon."

"Terry's at work. He has to do a double shift today so he won't be home until 9."

She grabbed her bag and waved her hand for me to follow. I quickly shoved my flats on and raced out of the door before Elizabeth would get pissed and start honking her horn for all of China to hear. But I slowed down once I saw a moving van pass by the house, and two foreign cars pass by. They definitely didn't belong in this old town by the looks of their cars. Corvettes maybe? They each at least cost 200,000 or more.

"Who do you think they are?" I asked once I climbed in the car.

"Who?"

"The new people who are moving in. Maybe down the street?"

"They're moving in that old mansion you and Meghan talk about so much."

Whoa what? Someone actually bought that place out? I turned in my seat to see if I could still see them, but they were already gone.

I'm really sorry this first chapter was so short! But I'm really into to cliff hangers. I hope this is starting off good so far.
