The Wedding Plot

Chapter 1

"Hey what's up Alia? I was wondering if you wanted to grab coffee later?? I have something to ask you.... just let me know k?"

     The only voice message left on my phone and i bet I knew what it was about. Let's see Kristen had left it, and she'd recently got engaged. I bet all my nonexistent money that coffee is to ask me to be her bridesmaid.

     Don't get me wrong, I had nothing against being a bridesmaid. I grew up with an older brother who always seemed to outshine me in... EVERYTHING. I always longed for a sister, so I have always had a lot of girl friends to fill that void in my life. Most of us are about thirty now which means weddings all over.

     I come from a part Indian family so not only do I have peer pressure to "settle down" soon but I have my family nagging me all the time. Since my brother had already gotten married, now all the family kept asking me when it was my turn.

    I sighed and went to my closet to go get ready to meet Kristen. Yup thats 13 dresses I see in my "bridesmaid" section and not a single wedding dress, and if my little hunch was correct (which it was going to be) that number was soon to be fourteen.

     "Hey where are you going princess?" My totally hot roommate Jace walked in. Jace and I were rather... complicated. Friends with benefits some might say.

"Coffee with Kristen. You want anything?"

"I work there, I can just steal something if i need it."

"Haha ok. See you later? "

"Ill just meet you there in a bit and we will go out okay?"

"Sure" I gave him a quick goodbye kiss and walked out.

     It's not like i didn't have any love in my life. I have had 2 serious relationships and too many flings to count. The first was in high school and ended soon as we separated and went to different colleges. The second was in senior year of college but didn't last.

    I made the short walk over to the super close Starbucks. See I was part of this cliche friend group almost like the show "friends". I honestly spent so much time here it was crazy. It included Jace, who worked here, Ramon and his boyfriend Nick, and Kristen, who has been my best friend since college. Well she's getting married now so she will probably separate form us like a lot of my other friends have.

     We used to be this big group of twenty somethings enjoying their freedom in the big city. As they all started to get married our numbers became smaller and smaller and now its just us.

"OMG ALIA!" Kristen squeals.

"Hey Girl! What do you want? Im about to order."

"No way. Its on me, I called you over here so i insist."

"Hmmm k" I agree

As we both stand in line she seems really jittery.

"You sure you want more caffeine?" I ask her.

   She makes this serious face at me but cant hold it for longer than 2 seconds. After what feels like forever, its our turn.

"Hi i'll have the salted caramel frapucino for Alia."

"I'll have the Pumpkin Spice Latte for Kris"

I get my drink with my name actually spelled correctly. It took two years for that to happen.

"Anyways, as you know Josh proposed. He wanted to have it as soon as possible since he has to go to his station in Texas in a year."

   Kris' fiancé, Josh, was an army guy and was constantly moving, and now i guess Kris would be moving with him.

"So the wedding is in two months, a week before Christmas and there is so much to do... and i was wondering if you'd be my...MAID OF HONOR" she says while a grin spreads across her face.

"Of course" I reply while going in for a hug.

Ok so not a bridesmaid, but still close enough. Here we go again...
