We had to write a story about an object. I chose a dolphin eraser.
The 4th grade aquarium field trip. This was the day the little girl had been looking to since she heard of it last year. This was her first time to visit an aquarium. It was also not in her hometown, which meant she had to take a mini roadtrip, something she did not do often. This had to be the best day ever! And she hadn't even left her house yet.
8:00 am was when the scheduled time the bus would leave. It was just half an hour before she would experience the beginning of the greatest day ever!
"Dad, come on! We have to leave!" The girl practically bounced around the living room as she waited on her father. He had chosen to chaperone this field trip because he knew it would be extra special for his daughter.
The girl's father finished tying his shoes and stood, holding out a hand to her, "Well, shall we?"
The girl took her father's hand, "We shall!"
They drove the short distance to her school and began to load the bus. Right at 8:00 am, the teachers took the role and the bus began its hour long trek to the aquarium.
"We're here! Dad, come on!" The girl could not contain her excitement as she walked up to the aquarium. "First thing we are doing is going to see dolphins. I love dolphins!"
The day continued on with seeing various sea creatures, the first being a dolphin for the little girl. By the end of the day, the girl's excitement had been replaced with yawns.
"Hey," her father began, "would you like something to remember this day by?"
The girl's eyes instantly lit up as her father handed her a small package, a package of sea animal erasers.
--
Years later, the girl, now grown up and moving out for college, was cleaning out her room when she stumbled across a package of sea animal erasers in her desk drawer. The package was unopened but dusty from years of disuse. She instantly remembered one of the greatest days as a child. She opened the package and took out the dolphin eraser, the one she had loved the most as a kid.
She called out down the hall, "Hey dad, come look at this. I'm sure you'll love it."
