The world's standard for beauty is constantly changing and evolving to fit the new premise of what men and women should be.
As a male, I've reached a realization in my life that I am expected to be muscular and have abdominal muscles. Sadly, not all of us have the ability to be what the media views as beautiful or handsome. We cannot expect to reach this standard either. Plastic surgery basically turns you into a plastic cyborg, so that's barely a viable option.
Body and weight shaming is a terrible social epidemic. The chances of being shamed about the way you look, and obviously, people can be ugly, but there is no need to point it out or throw it in their face until the point of suicide or worse; eating disorders.
Scenario: You are to hunt an animal, and for the killing blow you shoot the animal in the knee, leaving it to suffer and bleed out as it cannot function as it is supposed to.
Eating disorders do the same thing to your body. These disorders slowly kill your body either through destroying the lining of your esophagus (Vomiting excessive amounts), making your muscle mass deteriorate (you can lose muscle, but you cannot make more muscle, you can only make muscles bigger), and depriving you of important nutrients that supply you with the important things you need to stay alive, healthy, and mentally able.
Here are some tips for how to not body shame people:
1. How would you feel in their body? This is a very important aspect of life. I personally will not make fun or poke at you unless its been previously stated/noted that you are okay with it. That being said, evaluate how a person will react, and if you must directly address their weight, do it in a constructive way that they will understand.
2. Even skinny people feel as if they're fat. Everyone I've met feels like they're fat or overweight, even I feel like I am fat and hideously unattractive. So if somebody says they are fat and clearly aren't fat. As Onision and my good friend Matthew stated, unless you have stomach fat rolls when you stand, you're not fat, and remember that.
3. Shaming does not help better our society. Fat shaming, thin shaming, disorder shaming, it is all the same problem, and needs to stop. People die due to this shaming.

Basically a big story to summarize that you should refrain from being a douche, and if people are fat and can't take a blunt statement, be easy on them about it. Because they feel unwanted, unloved, and unappreciated just like many many other people do.
