Freshman year of high school was a breeze. I had a little trouble getting used to everything, but for the most part I was a pretty easy year. I had a couple of problems here and there, and I thought I would fall back into the same ol' patterns, but I pulled myself out of it and made the best of the situations.
Sophomore year. Most definently the best year of my life. My aunt and my cousin moved down to where I lived, and my aunt started working in the special needs room. Now, I've been around special needs kids almost my whole life, because I had two cousins with special needs. But, I never knew that I had a passion with helping kids with special needs until my aunt started her job there.
I became incredibly close to every kid in that classroom, and I formed a bond that can never be broken with everyone in there. Because of that room I formed friendships that I never expected to have and my confidence level skyrocketed.
That year, I went to prom with 3 of the people I had met in the special needs classroom, and I never expected what would come next.
While at prom, the 3 people I knew started talking to a girl and a guy, the guy I had seen before. I didn't realize who he was until about halfway through the night, and it had hit me, me and him had been friends for a year or so, and we had only talked through Instagram. None of us knew that we would become incredibly close friends.
Towards the end of the night, a slow song came on and I decided to dance with Justin's sister (the guy I knew from Instagram). Her name is Kylee. We were both so awkward, and we didn't really know each other, at all. But, even after prom, we decided to all hang out as a group.
This is the time that I became so happy and so confident with myself that I didn't care what anyone had to say. I was myself. Happy. Genuinely happy.
