prologue;

Walking was pleasant In a strange way, you could feel the tendons stretching in your feet the muscles working together to form one swift movement. But not like running. Running felt the same apart from everything was intensified and more concentrated. This is what it felt like when Ashley ran, she moved swiftly and never stumbled kept the pace she aimed at even if today that pace was 200 miles an hour that was the fastest she had tried so far and she had to admit she was struggling more than on the 150. This time the strides had to be longer faster all hard things to accomplish when your face feels like it's wrapping around your neck like a scarf.

She concentrated harder this time planning out the route she would take and what obstacles to avoid. She now knew the importance of preparing for this as at one point she had been hit in the face by a branch that she could have sworn had not been there when she had started, and was left with a lovely branch shaped bruise.

The field felt bigger than it had been and the grass looked duller around the edges of her eyes as though she was wearing sunglasses that had holes in the middle of them. But the centre of her vision was more perfect than it had been, she could see every stringy feather on every single bird that flew past, all the trees in the distance as though she was studying them through a microscope. Then she ran, she ran as fast as possible. And in around a second she was at the other end of the field. She knew she wasn't some kind teleporter as the pedometer she had attached to the waist line of her jeans read 1089 paces. So she knew she was moving her feet, even if it was at an unnatural speed. She also knew she should probably be panting really hard after that run if not then dead, but she felt as though she had just walked across a small room.

She was so free when she ran, as though everything else in the world was irrelevant and she and her few surroundings ( a few trees and some grass filled with some lush and some half dead daisies, ) were all that existed. Like nothing else mattered at all, other than moving her feet at what seemed like an even speed. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked down at her watch... she was late for afternoon classes at school!

chapter 1

Sat on a plastic chair behind a speckled desk, she felt exposed and uncomfortable. She was sat next to a boy she barely new the name of whilst the teacher ( Mr Shelly ) made a nonsensical speech about the history of England. She glanced around the classroom it's greying white walls, and colourful displays attempting to brighten the bland room. on the opposite side of the room was a dark wooden door with a small window in the middle. She had run through that door around an hour ago shouting " Sorry I'm late!" granted she could have ' run ' to school but someone might have noticed the small blur of her speedy figure. So she had walked at a normal speed, pretending to be a normal person, and being , as normal, late.

The teacher had given her a look that ,to her, said " Sit down before I decide to kill you " and she had hurried to her desk. Now she was being bored to death by the speech while her best friend pulled faces of exaggerated sadness at her. Her friend was called Grace. And she was, ad the name suggests, very graceful. Ashley was exactly the opposite, although, she was athletic and could run like there was no tomorrow, she could not do anything sporty apart from that.

She looked through the tinted window and saw nothing but grey road and a few cars of assorted colours parked in a messy order, some on the side of the pavement, some halfway out into the road.

Ashley didn't really ever want to drive, she much preferred sitting quietly with the window open staring at the passing scenes, while her brother drove her around. He had dark eyes from there mother but still had the thick blond waves which was cut just above the ear, her blond hair was waist length and wavy, and her small face hosted big blue eyes framed by long dark lashes, this was most of the family looked like. light hair and assorted coloured eyes (mostly blue.) Ashley daydreamed a lot these days to get her mind off school and what her future would be, she basically was sat at procrastination station and no buses were coming to take her away.
