I didn't get the usual feeling I normally got when I was at G.B's grave and it made me sad. Maybe he didn't remember me? Or maybe he was being shy? I dunno. I sighed and traced the letters on the tombstone. Then I heard footsteps. I panicked and hid behind the grave as fast as I could.
'Just in time' I thought to myself as a short, thin woman walked into the cemetery in a detective outfit. She looked around and then looked right at G.B's grave. She walked to the grave and smiled softly. "I hear you had a visitor some years ago? And now I hear he's back?" Her voice was soft and gentle. She didn't seem like the one to be a detective at all. She seemed more like a librarian or something like that.
"Now you won't be lonely anymore huh?" She smiled and I tried to be a quiet as possible. After a few minutes she left and I came out of hiding. "How did she know I was back? Let alone here?" I shrugged and started to leave feeling anxious. I turned around and waved "BYE G.B!" I yelled.
I walked back towards town. As I walked I looked down at the ground thinking about what I was gonna do when I bumped into someone. I looked up "I'm so sorry" I said quietly. "I-I didn't mean to.." i stuttered. The man I ran into only smiled "it's alright son. No harm done." He then looked me over "you're new aren't you?" He asked "I mean I guess you could say that I mean technically I've lived here all my life only I've been at Brookline Asylum since I was 10 so I don't really remember where anything is besides the old cemetery."
He looked at me "oh my.. how about I help you find your way around town for a while hmm? Maybe help you out financially too until you get back on your feet?" I blinked in shock. "Sir, are you sure? You don't have to do that." He smiled "I insist"
"Okay" I said softly
"So what's your name?"
"Barnabas, Barnabas Collin" I paused "please don't call me Barnaby" i whispered
He nodded "well it's very lovely to meet you Barnabas I'm Dr.Michael Tobin." He held out his hand. I took it and smiled. 'A friend!' I exclaimed in my head. "So Barnabas where do you live?"
I pointed to Collin hill where my house was "There"
Micheals eyes widened "THERE!?! ON COLLIN HILL?"
I nodded "yea"
"That house hasn't had anyone living in it for years. And there's been stories and myths that people died there and their ghosts haunt the place"
I shook my head and laughed "'no no no ones died there ever and there's no ghosts I promise you"
"Oh okay good" he laughed nervously and scratched the back of his neck. "Wait wait you're Barnabas Collin? THE Barnabas Collin like the one that was in the paper this morning?"
I shrugged "I guess so I mean I dunno I haven't gotten the paper.
He pulled out that mornings paper and showed it to me. I started to read. Wow I'm famous. Great that's just great. I couldn't read anymore it disgusted me. I gave it back to him.
"What they said was all lies I wasn't put in Brookline cause I killed my father!! My mother killed my father!! Right in front of me!!" I looked down and started crying.
Michael stared at me "Oh Barnabas I'm so sorry... no child should have to go through that.." he put his arm around me and rubbed my side.
"That's why I went to Brookline cause after that I 'went insane' as everyone put it...and I never got over it..."
"Well no of course not no person could get over something like that especially if it happened at such a young age" he sighed "hey let's get your mind off the subject and start the tour now?"
I nodded and wiped my eyes "please" I said weakly. He smiled and started walking "I'll take you all over town and in the middle well stop and get some lunch what do you think about that?"
"That would be great actually" I said wiping my eyes again. We took the tour and like he said in the middle we got some lunch. Lemme tell ya that was the best food I've tasted in years.
After lunch we continued the tour the last stop was the butcher shop. I didn't know why I needed to be shown this but whatever I went along with it. One inside I looked around at all the meat hanging on hooks.
"Looks like the doctors operating room" I chuckled and Michael stared at me.
  "W-what!?!" He exclaimed
"The doctor at the asylum this looks like his operating room. He was a little insane himself but he was the best and everyone was too scared to fire him anyways." I shrugged "I never had to go there often thankfully.
"Oh..." he looked down. I grabbed a butcher knife off the counter. I turned around not realizing Micheal was right behind me and I stabbed him in the stomach. He screamed and started bleeding as he collapsed on the floor. "Holy shit Michael are you okay?" I asked calmly looking down at him.
He didn't answer. I shrugged "maybe he decided to take a nap. I won't wake him." I put the knife back on the counter and I stepped over Michael starting to walk back home. As I walked I heard a scream and police sirens. I ignored it and kept walking home.
