Chapter 3

Amour

Have you ever had that moment when you look at someone and think I recognize her and feel like I should know her but have never seen her before? Well that was this moment for me.

She walked in towards the counter. I set Mackenzie down and waved my hand in front of Brittany to get her attention. "Oh," was all she said before putting her phone in the pocket of her apron. Mackenzie ran ino the office to play with some toys and I went to the cash register and typed in my pin code as the girl walked up to the counter.

"Hello, how may I help you?" I stated in a happy voice. According to my mother, first impressions are the most important thing when meeting someone.

"Um, hmm," The girl said looking at the menu, then back at me. I noticed her glance at my nametag. "Well, Amour, what do you suggest?"

"The pumpkin spice latte is one of my personal favorites. But Brittany here," I motioned to Brittany beside me, "really likes the mocha frappucinno. But there are lots of others too."

"I'll take the pumpkin spice latte," she said. She twirled her hair with her finger as Brittany starts to make her drink.

"So, Amour, You look really familiar, but I can't remember where I've seen you," she said, sounding somewhat nervous.

"Funny, I have the same feeling," I said. "What's your name again?"

"Paix," she answered smoothly.

She started muttering stuff.

"I couldn't stand this feeling of knowing her... I knew I'd never seen her... Oh, snap out of it!"

"Excuse me?" I asked, unsure of what to do.

"Oh, I'm sorry," She apologized. "I thought I was just thinking that. I never meant to say it. I just can't shake the feeling that I know you."

I was about to say something, but Brittany tapped on my shoulder before handing me the drink.

"Here's your drink," I said, trying to remain calm, handing herthe drink while smiling. She took her wallet out of her purse. "That'll be $5.14." She gave me the exact change.

"So, what do you think?" I asked. She took a sip of the latte and her eyes widened. That's a good sign, it's what most customers do when they first take a sip of our drinks.

Especially when Brittany makes them, she's the best at making them.

"Wow, this is amazing!" She said as I grinned at her.

"Well, we only make the best here at Beans 'n Cremes." I said, keeping the smile on my face. "So, do you go to Radcliffe High School?" I asked.

"Yes," she said. "I start tomorrow."

"Oh, hopefully we'll be in the same class," I said, smiling at her. I felt this like connection to her. Like we were related or something.

"Yeah," she said, smiling back. "I have to go," and with that she left.

I sighed and started cleaning off everything while waiting for Jack to show up and take me home. He finally showed up and I got in the car. We rode in silence past the poorer houses and up the mountain. Finally we reached our house and I walked in to be greeted by my doberman, Dino. "Hey Dino," I said, rubbing behind his ears before heading up to my room. My cat, a scottish fold, was sitting on my bed when I walked in. "Hey Grey," I said before dropping my backpack and heading straight into my bathroom.

I took down my hair and looked at my phone. 6:57, it read. Undoubtly we'd be having dinner soon, so I brushed out my hair and headed downstairs where I heard my mom on the phone.
