It was deathly silent in the castle, the only noise coming from the howling wind that ran through the cracks in the walls. The King and Queen sat in shock, their mouths hanging slackly open while they tried to comprehend what they had just heard.
The messenger stood in front of them with a nervous energy radiating off him, worried that he would face the blame for the dreadful news that he had just told the royals.
"You're saying that there are people trying to kill my daughter? Lyra?" The King managed to choke out, casting his eyes to his wife who was stunned into silence, tears brimming in her eyes yet not quite falling.
"That is what we have been led to believe. They want to end the monarchy, which means getting rid of any heirs. Lyra is not safe here."
"But how could anyone want to hurt my beautiful Lyra?" The queen cried out, finally finding her voice. Her husband restrained her from standing up and yelling at the poor messenger and she tried to compose herself.
"You may leave, thank you for informing us of this," the King's voice shook slightly as he cast the messenger out, leaving the couple in quiet reflection.
Neither knew what the solution could be, but they knew they needed one.
"She must be taken from this country until this unrest ends," the King finally decided, speaking with an air of certainty.
"You cannot take my child from me? Whatever shall I do? I will be worried sick-"
"It is for her safety," the King was decided, his daughter had to leave his kingdom before the assassins had the chance to strike.
"Who shall take her away? She cannot possibly go on her own!" The Queen was grasping at straws, trying desperately to keep her daughter within the walls of the palace.
"I know just the people," the King smiled to himself while staring out the window onto his land.
And silence resumed, with the only noise coming from the howling of the wind.
