Skotàdi was resting in a tree alongside his younger brother Fos, who had fallen asleep. Skotàdi was about to fall asleep when he saw a young human male. The child appeared to be about 5 or 6 he guessed.
The child was just sitting outside in plain view. "What's so interesting about some human child?" Skotàdi thought. Out of curiosity, he crept down the tree silently and approached the child.
To avoid being seen by any other humans, Skotàdi used his influence over shadows to make himself appear to be the shadow of a large wolf. The closer he drew to the child the stronger the feeling that there was something special about this child.
The child jumped in surprise and stared at him with a look of fear. To avoid scaring the child any more Skotàdi went back to his previous form, only without the red markings on his face and body. "Hello." The child said.
Skotàdi simply nodded at the child "Do you have a name?" 'It's just a kid Skotàdi, if he tells his parents they'll just think you're his imaginary friend. No big deal.' He thought. "Skotàdi. It means 'darkness' in Greek. What's your name, child?" "Danny. How can you talk Sk- Sko-" "Please, if it makes it easier for you. Just call me Dark. And, don't be afraid, but I'm a demon."
Danny looked shocked and backed away before bumping into something else. He looked up to see two kind ocean blue eyes staring back at him. "Hello child. I see you met my brother Skotàdi, he didn't scare you. Did he?" "A little..." "Sorry Danny." Skotàdi said. "Good, you're improving!" The second wolf said happily.
The second wolf was pure white and radiated an aura of kindness and gentleness. "By the way, my name is Fos. It's 'light' in Greek." "Do you mind me calling you Light?" Danny asked. "Go ahead, if it makes it easier for you."
Danny smiled "Thanks." "What's your name, child?" Fos asked. "Danny." "Nice to meet you Danny." Fos said with a smile. While Fos and Danny spoke, Skotàdi started growling viciously. "Dan, where's your house?" He asked. Danny pointed at a house nearby "Over there."
Skotàdi opened his jaws and picked up Danny by the back of his shirt then took off running at top speed towards the house. "Wait up Dark!" Fos shouted as he rushed to keep up with his elder brother.
Skotàdi masked himself in the shadows and ran through the door, taking Danny along with him. He then returned Danny back to his original state as Fos barreled in after the two in a bright light. "What was that about Dark?" Fos asked.
"I sensed someone with bad intentions approaching us. The kid didn't need to be around it." Skotàdi explained. Just then a woman walked in "Hi Danny." "Hi Mom." Danny replied. The woman noticed teeth marks on the back of Danny's shirt collar and seemed to become worried.
"Danny, what happened to your shirt collar?" "Dark carried me back here in his teeth." "Who's Dark?" "A big black and red wolf with red eyes. He has a brother named Light. Light is a big white wolf with blue eyes."
The woman smiled, it would seem she thought the pair of wolves standing in her house were her sons imaginary friends. "Hey Dark?" "Yes?" "I have a special feeling about this woman and her son." "Same here." 'Are these humans our new masters?' Skotàdi thought to himself.
It certainly was a possibility. Skotàdi wasn't overly fond of the woman as Fos seemed to be, he was more interested in the child. 'Wait, where's this kid's dad?' He thought. Perhaps the kid's dad was at work or something.
The two wolves spent the day with Danny while remaining hidden to his mother as they didn't want to frighten her with their presence. That night the two were certain neither of Danny's parents would catch them. So they chose to leave the shadows.
"Dark, Light?" "Yeah?" Skotàdi asked "Could you sleep up here with me?" "Sure." Fos replied. "Alright." Skotàdi answered as the pair of wolves jumped onto Danny's bed. Skotàdi laid down next to Danny who snuggled up to him due to his warmth while Fos laid down by Skotàdi as he had done every night since the two of them were pups.
Skotàdi was awoken around ten at night by a door opening and a shocked gasp. He growled then immediately relaxed when he saw it was just Danny's mother. "Jack!" The woman whisper yelled.
A man went up to the woman "What?" The woman pointed at the pair of wolves laying near her son. The man known as Jack went to grab a knife and made his way towards the wolves carefully. Skotàdi just stared at him interested.
'This human... Jack, I haven't felt this connection for years... My new master...' Skotàdi thought as he licked Jack's hand to show he meant no harm. The red markings returned to his face which earned a shocked reaction from both Jack and the woman.
Skotàdi tilted his head to the side as he hopped down from the bed and sat at Jack's side, ready for any command. Skotàdi growled to awaken Fos who awoke with the blue markings on his face clearly visible.
Fos looked at Skotàdi with a questioning look. Skotàdi just nodded, Fos nodded in response and walked towards the woman. He sat at her side, ready for any command. Jack and the woman looked between themselves with confused expressions.
"What are they doing?" The woman asked. "Why the hell should I know?" Jack replied. "Try giving it a command." The woman suggested. "Okay... Uh... Lay down." Skotàdi obeyed and laid down. "Lay down." The woman said, Fos obeyed and laid down.
Jack smiled down at the demonic wolf and patted his back gently "Want to keep them?" "Uh... Sure." The woman replied. "We'll have to get them registered at the vet tomorrow and get some collars and food and all that."
That night Skotàdi and Fos slept near Danny to guard him as the woman had requested. The next morning Jack took them to the local vet to get them checked out. "Name of your... Wolves." 'Shit!' Jack thought 'The black one is named Skotàdi, the white one is named Fos' Skotàdi told him through thought.
"The black one is named Skotàdi and the white one is named Fos." "Greek names, cool." The receptionist said. They waited about fifteen minutes before they were called to be checked out. "These wolves are in perfect health, despite a few scars on Skotàdi but they aren't infected." The doctor said.
'Of course we're in perfect health, we can't be killed by disease.' Skotàdi thought. Jack thanked the doctor then went to get two collars and some food. He settled on a pair of spiked collars and got food that the doctor had recommended for them.
The way home was calm, but Jack couldn't throw the feeling that there was something... Off about the two wolves. He couldn't quite pinpoint what it was though. Once they were home Skotàdi carried in the food and Fos carried in the collars without Jack telling them to.
"At least they're intelligent." Jack said quietly. Fos took his collar, which was a dark blue, to the woman whom he had learned her name was Wendy. Jack helped Skotàdi put the food away as he couldn't quite put it away on his own then fetched his collar, which was pitch black, then returned to Jack.
"So, what do we call them?" "Skotàdi and Fos." "Where did you get those names?" "When I was at the vet the receptionist asked me what their names were. A voice said 'The black one is named Skotàdi, the white one is named Fos' so that's their names apparently." Jack said.
"Those names sound familiar..." Wendy said. Jack shrugged "The receptionist said the names were Greek. Maybe you heard them in school or something." "Yeah, maybe." Fos grinned at his new master as Skotàdi grinned at his new master.
Maybe this time they would have kind masters. Skotàdi had a history of eventually killing his human masters and making it seem like a natural death. After all, his human masters would keep him chained down and he hated being tied down.
Fos typically got more humane masters and only left them after they died. 'They'll find us out one day... They always do...' Skotàdi thought.
