KEIRA

I ducked into the shadows inside a very narrow alley and tried to catch my breath as I slowly slid to the ground with my back to the wall. My heart was pounding inside me as if dozens and dozens of horses were racing inside. Every breath seemed like a struggle and no matter how hard I tried to play it down, I still felt like the tides of fear were drowning me.

Eventually, I decided it would be better if I would just think about something else- something that could somehow ease up my mind and delay me from panicking.

I imagined myself wearing a beautiful ball gown with a matching a tiara and suddenly-

Shit! It's not working!

The whole area was eerily silent, save for the usual cacophony in the neighborhood, but in the distance I was able to make out thudding noises. My eyes grew wide with alarm upon hearing approaching urgent steps heading towards the alley- towards me.

Covering my mouth with both hands, I shut my eyes tightly and prayed with much conviction that they won't find me. I was so scared, I barely even noticed it as two figures ran past the alley. It was even a miracle I have pissed my pants yet.

Luckily, some powerful being somewhere up there must have been feeling generous towards me for the two enormous dark suited men ran past the alley without even noticing a  tiny figure curled into a tight ball which was me.

Geez I have never been more grateful for my petite figure...

The moment I was sure they were gone, judging by the distant sound of their footsteps until there was no sound at all, I slowly got up and dusted off my pants. No sound could be heard in the alley but the heavy traffic and some audible squeaks of mice .

Ugh!

Nevertheless, I breathed a huge sigh of relief after my pursuers were gone.

You must be wondering why all of a sudden I was acting like a fugitive. Trust me I'm not a fugitive trying to hide from the police. The men chasing me were loan sharks from whom my father borrowed some money and apparently he failed to pay them back and as a bonus he dragged me into his mess and now they're hot on my heels.

Oh joy!

Note to self : When a girl says she wants to be chased around by men, she doesn't really mean it literally for it was anything but exciting.

Anyway, you must also be wondering what happened after that joyous event in the cafe. To start off- I got fired which wasn't so amazing at all, by the way. But speaking of something good, I managed to get my father off the hook and by that- no lawsuit and no lawsuit meant no bail and no bail meant no payment.

But oh boy was I wrong about that last part.

As expected I went home sulking and gloomy and imagine my elation when I was greeted by our land lady asking for yet another payment considering we haven't paid her for about 2 months.

We argued for several minutes but in the end I have gotten ourselves kicked out of our apartment. Though if you'd ask me I'd actually say 'good riddance' if only we had a new and much better apartment as replacement .

And what about my father. That freaking jerk left me behind almost right after I had saved his sorry ass in the cafe. I have not glimpsed even just the end of his shadow.

Some father you are...

At first I figured it would be much better if I just won't take it to the heart but while I was packing my stuff, two bulky men wearing shades and dark suits suddenly barged into our apartment. They were looking for my dad and they were blabbering something about debts.
