In the living room sitting on a wooden chair near the window as the snow fell from the sky covering the neighbourhood like a blanket. I was knitting a scarf for my beloved husband because of the cold that was spreading outside, as I was knitting the black scarf thinking about how good it would look on him. Suddenly I felt something cover my shoulders I turned around to see who it was, it was him, Eric my wonderful husband the love of my life. "It's chilly you know, you're gonna catch a cold," he said as he cover me with the red blanket. I gazed at him and thanked him he gave me a breathtaking smile and kissed my forehead.

"What's that," he asked as he glanced at the black scarf.

"It's nothing," I answered as I place the scarf aside.

"Okay then," he smiled and walked away.

I didn't want him to see the scarf, it may not be a birthday present or a fancy Christmas gift, but a scarf just for him. If someone saw the scarf it might be a average black scarf to them, but to me it was much more than that. I poured all my feelings for him into the scarf, and when I finally give it to him I hope he notices the hard work and emotions I put into it.

It was evening and I was preparing dinner, I had successfully finished the scarf and I wanted to give it to him during our dinner. The dinner was going to be very special, when I give the scarf to him I wanted our dinner to have a warm atmosphere. I prepared his favourite meal spaghetti bolognese and his favourite dessert strawberry cheesecake, it was place on top of the smooth scarlett cover that was covering the dining table. There were candles placed on the middle of the table and the lights were dim, I turned on the radio to smooth jazz, everything was set, "oh yeah I forgot the wine," I rushed to the kitchen to go get the wine, once I got the wine and placed it on the dining table the door bell rang. I ran towards the door and opened it, it was Eric.

When he came in the house he seemed to be annoyed, "welcome home honey," I said. He simply walked passed me and didn't say anything, I could clearly tell he was in a bad mood, I just hope our dinner would lift up his spirit. In the dining room we ate our dinner, Eric still looked glum, he barely ate the dinner I spent all evening working on, and he didn't say one word to me even when I asked him how his day was. The warm atmosphere that was once there suddenly faded away. We were nearly finished our meals and I wanted to give him the scarf right away.

"Eric sweety I have a surprise for you,"

"What is it?," he asked.

I told him to wait there and I went upstairs to go get it, I grabbed the box that the scarf was in from the closet, I rushed downstairs and gave it to him. "I made it specially for you," I said with enthusiasm. He opened the box and lifted up the black scarf, he glanced at the scarf for a moment, he put it back into the box and continued eating. A part of me turned blue, what just happened, did he not like it, all that hard work. He didn't even notice my feels I put into the scarf, he didn't seem to care.

I continued to stare at him, he drew his eyes towards me, "what's wrong?," he asked.

"Nothing," I answered.

He stared at me waiting for me to truly answer his question, I was very hurt and upset and I wanted to tell him how I felt since honesty is very important in a marriage so I went for it.

"The scarf."

"What about the scarf?."

"It's just, I work really hard on that scarf and you didn't give it a though."

"Hey look I'm sorry I'm just having a bad day."

"I know but still it took me a whole week to make that scarf and you didn't even say thank you."

"Calm down Bella it's just a scarf."

Did he just say what I think he just said, "just a scarf, just a scarf I poured my whole heart into that scarf and you didn't even give it a second look!," I suddenly raised my voice.

"Wait a minute, I just had a bad day at work I really don't need this right now!," he raised his voice.

"YEAH I KNOW THAT BUT THAT'S NO EXCUSE TO RUIN THIS EVENING I PREPARED FOR YOU WITH YOUR GRUMPY ATTITUDE!," I yelled.

"HEY DON'T YOU DARE YELL AT ME ABOUT A STUPID SCARF!," he yelled back.

That was it, I didn't want to be in the same room with him any more, he just shattered everything. I stormed out of the dining room.

"Where are you going?," he asked.

"Away from you," I muttered.

The time passed and I sat at the living room listening to the radio. Eric came into the room, "hey it's nearly mid night are you coming to bed or not," he asked. I gave no answer, he took it as a no and went upstairs to bed. I sat there thinking about everything and was it the right decision, I continued to sit in the living room with the radio still on, lost in though. I began to think maybe I was being selfish maybe I wasn't considering his feelings, my eyes glanced towards the clock, it was way past mid night and I was getting tired.

I went upstairs to the bedroom, I opened the bedroom door and saw something that lifted up my mood to complete happiness. It was Eric sleeping on the bed with the black scarf I made for him wrapped around his body, cuddling it like a teddy bear. I gazed at him with a big smile on my face, until a voice called for me, "mother, mother, mother, wake up," the voice called.

I woke up from the dream I rubbed my eyes and turned to where the voice was coming from, it was my daughter Lily.

"Come on mother wake up, today is the big day," she said with excitement.

"Is it now," I replied as I stretched my arms .

"Yeah now wakie wakie sleepy head."

Lily left the room, I got up and sat on the side of the bed.

"That dream seemed so real," I whispered to myself.
