The school day flew by pretty fast, a normal Monday. All normal except the thoughts that circled in my head. I could not stop thinking about this strange boy. Never had I obsessed over a guy, I kept telling myself it was because he could help me find my brother, although I wondered if it was true.
When lunch arrived I couldn't help but feel anxious. Thanks was so sure that he wasn't gonna come I couldn't help but jump when my name was called over the intercom.
As I approached the office I realized that I was nervous, I was about to face this intimidating, cocky boy again. When I spotted him I couldn't help but feel smug about his obvious discomfort. He appeared awkward standing at the office counter twiddling with his thumbs as he stared at the ground.
"Did he sign in yet," I asked the women in the office. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Andrew jump as he realized that I now stood beside him.
"Yes, thank-you Phebe, I appreciate your concern. You can go now," she answered without looking up.
As I turned to walk I noticed the Andrews awkward stance had still not subsided, so grabbing hold of his arm I tugged him along behind me as I headed toward the table I usually sat at.
As we sat I couldn't help but comment,"You aren't so cool now that your not right at home, huh hotshot," I teased. I could see him tense as he realized what I was insinuating.
"Don't worry honey, I'm back to myself now," he answered calmly.
"Don't call me that,"I quickly spat as a couple of the boys I usually sat with pulled back there chairs.
"Whatever you say honey," he said with his cocky grin.
I could feel my face turn red as the boys around the table raised there eye brows at each other.
"Phebe, found yourself a new boyfriend I see," the closest boy, Josh, taunted as he nudged my shoulder. As I glanced around I noticed all of the other boys looked at me questioningly, awaiting an introduction.
"This is a friend, Andrew," I introduced, pronouncing the word friend extra loud."Andrew, this is Josh, Alex, and Kendal."
"Hello boys, Phebe and I are only friends right now, but we will be a thing sooner on. We just don't know each other well enough, right honey?"he spoke, still sporting the same cocky grin.
"No," I answered, scooting my chair a little further away to make my point.
"What's the matter, what happened to the girl at the restaurant who always had her own comeback?" He looked at me with what appeared to be genuine concern.
My heart flutter with content, he had noticed I was upset, not even Josh had noticed and we had dated for nearly a month.
"What do you mean, she's fine," Alex jumped to answer. It was obvious the boys were growing jealous.
"Actually, I'm feeling kind of faint. I'm gonna tell the nurse, she'll let me go," I replied angrily.
As I stood to get up Andrew jumped up as well, and began following me to the office.
"Why are you following me, you can go hang out with them,"I said in annoyance.
"No, I'm coming with you," the certainty in his voice was obvious so I tried to discourage him no more.
The nurse immediately allowed me to leave, no questions asked.
"What's really the matter?" Why did he care.
"Nothing, I wasn't feeling well, I'm fine now you can go," I chose the wrong moment to speak, because right then I grew dizzy and couldn't help but stumble over the ground that I could not see.
"Really? I don't believe that," he replied as he caught my arm and steadied me.
I felt grateful that he was here, but I also knew he couldn't save me from the dizziness that kept making me trip. As a headache filled my head, a groan escaped me, and I collapsed on my knees. Without a word, he picked me up, as I passed out against his shoulder.
When I woke up, I was startled to find I was in my bed. I remembered Andrew carrying me, and the memory made me look around. He sat beside my bed, sleeping in my computer chair. Slowly I reached out and shook Andrew awake.
He opened his eyes and in panick, he glanced at me. "Are you alright, honey," he asked with concern.
"I'm fine, just thirsty," I told him. The minute the words left my mouth I could see relief in his eyes.
"Andrew, how did you get me home. The door was locked and you didn't even know where I live." I could see guilt fill his eyes, replacing the relief I had first glimpsed. How had he got me home?
