Ladies night was the highlight of Amber's year. She and a few friends went each year to see a stripper troupe, giving her time away from her home and children. Her husband could surely spend one night of the year looking after them.
As she stopped at Sarn Service station en route, Amber parked a distance from the building. It was four o'clock, and she was not meeting her friends for another four hours. She had plenty of time to stretch her legs. Getting what she required from the store, she lounged on the grass opposite the lorry park, arms outstretched behind her head.
Lorries entered and left in front of her, leaving her a bit flushed with the look of some of the truckers. One remained inside his vehicle, leaving her with a feeling she was being watched.
She smiled at him.
He returned the compliment.
'What my husband doesn't know wouldn't hurt the relationship,' she thought, as she coyly waved.
He smiled back, widening his mouth to show his gold enamel.
Palms on the grass, she laid back, pretending she was in an exotic place, rather than South Wales on the one and only fine day in the summer. This week had been the best, weather wise, of the year so far and she wanted to enjoy it as much as she could.
A friend managed to purchase front row seats for the show to enable them to get a good look at the troupe.
The door of the lorry she had been staring at swung open. She watched as boots emerged under the door.
'Cowboy boots. How kinky,' she thought, shaking her head. Immediately returning from the daydream she kept her eyes on him. Jeans. Followed by a denim shirt. Finally, his full body emerged and he immediately turned to look at her.
His hair wavy, cheekbones the highest she had ever seen on a man, and his eyes shone towards her. He made her tremble as she tried to think of the last time she had seen a man this attractive. She watched him reach into his cabin. The way he slightly bent over caused her to think, 'Oh my God, what a bum.' Her mind was full of fantasies, but she wanted them to remain there, where they could do no harm. From his cabin, he grabbed a hat, immediately putting it on. He looked a little stupid, but she didn't care. He probably didn't wear it all the time. As he leant against the grille of his lorry, he placed one of his feet against the bumper, his gaze remaining focused on her.
She imagined him undressing her with his eyes and liked the attention. She watched him lick his lips, get a cigarette from his shirt pocket, and grin at her as he lit it. Everything appeared to go quiet as she heard the click of his lighter by the cigarette.
He moved from the front of his lorry, walking towards her.
Amber wondered if he was going to talk to her.
'What's your name?' he gruffily asked, towering over her.
Not sure what she wanted to do, she watched as he looked her up and down, dragging the cigarette from his mouth. She watched him, wanting to speak, but felt too frightened. She closed her one eye and shielded the sun from her vision as she looked towards him.
He reached out his hand to take hers. 'My name is Carl.'
That voice. She could listen to it all day.
Amber reached out her hand. As hers touched his, he pulled her up.
'I asked what is your name little lady,' he asked a little more gruffly.
Amber stammered her name, 'A...a...a..mber.'
'What a pretty name for a pretty girl,' he grinned through one side of his mouth.
As she stood, she imagined his eyes undressing her. She watched him look her up and down. As his eyes drilled into her whole body, Amber felt the sexiest she had in a long time. Sometimes, she often thought having children took the sexiness from a woman, but this man was making her feel attractive once more.
She raised her hand to brush her hair from her eyes, nearly knocking off his hat.
Carl held onto the top of it as her hand brushed it's rim. 'Nobody messes with my hat,' he said.
Amber stepped back, biting her lip. 'Sorry,' she murmured.
'Aye, Carl,' someone called. He turned, and Amber looked in the same direction. 'It's about time we got going,' his friend said, nodding his head towards the lorry. 'We got a show to get to.'
Carl tipped his hat, 'Nice meeting you,' he said, his mind still looking as if he was undressing her. 'Maybe we can do the same again in a more private setting.'
'You never know your luck,' she replied as he walked away.
Nervously shaking from head to foot, she walked back to her car.
As his lorry pulled out. He honked his horn.
Unable to go anywhere for a while, she remained sat in her car.
The time had come.
Amber met her friends in the bar of the Hi-Tide Inn.
The barman told them the show was about to start as soon as they entered. They rushed to find their seats.
'Ladies, it is my pleasure to introduce to you, The Singletons,' someone announced over the tannoy. The room lights dimmed, and the bright lights above the stage came on as music begun to play.
Soon, they were on stage.
Five of them entered, immediately dancing and stripping.
As they turned to face the women, Amber recognised one, hitting one of her friends as she shouted, 'Carl.'
He looked at her and smiled, wearing the same hat as earlier.
'You can leave your hat on,' she whispered to herself as she hurriedly wrote her phone number on a beer mat, before running to the stage to place it in his pouch.
Carl smiled at her as she walked back to her seat.
Did he recognise her? She was unable to tell. It had all happened so quickly, but she continued to her seat, not knowing if she would regret what she had done. It was all for fun. They probably had a lot of women's telephone numbers given to them every night, knowing it was the females who kept them in the job. How many of them would they act upon? Probably none. Amber felt she was safe from any unwanted telephone calls.
