the loud growl of my motorcycle died down as I turned it off. I swung my right leg towards my left one and hopped off of my bike. I watched my white converse hit the pavement as I walked mindlessly through the cheap glass doors covered in stickers. the small aisles I passed held various candies and junk foods. I finally reached what I was looking for, the drink section. I opened the cold refrigerator door and grabbed a plastic bottle filled with my favorite drink - SOBE strawberry daiquiri.

turning around to pay for my drink, I passed the same little aisles as before, only this time I grabbed a small bag of skittles.

"you're up late," Maurice, the person behind the cashier, spoke. we conversed often seeing as I often came to the gas station at late hours and that's when he worked.

"it's only one," I shrugged, handing him my items.

"in the morning," he chuckled. he scanned my drink and candy and told me the total. I handed him a ten dollar bill, "most teenagers are asleep at this time, you know."

"I'm not most teenagers, now am I, Maurice?"

"guess not," he shook his head. he reached his hands over the counter and handed me my change. I picked up my food, nodding towards the tall man behind the counter.

"thanks, Maurice," I called behind me as I left.

"see you soon," he replied just before the door closed behind me.

I put everything into my small backpack and slung it over my shoulders. My backpack was with me everywhere, it was like a purse but a lot more badass because it was leather. I started my motorcycle up and pulled out of the gas station parking lot. I drove through the quiet city, my loud bike being the only sound heard. the cold night air hit my hands and arms, I smiled. I loved this feeling.

the feeling of the cold air. the feeling of being independent. the feeling of being awake after everyone else had gone to bed. it was weird, but I enjoyed it.

I reached my destination, parking my motorcycle back a few feet. I climbed off and went to the edge. I had driven up a mountain that overlooked the city I lived in. Westfield, Indiana was a small town consisting of 33,000 people. it was a charming little city. not much ever happened here, but once something did everyone knew about it within the hour.

the lights in front of me were captivating, but only at night. during the day they seemed to be gossiping and whispering as much as the townspeople. it was too chaotic and loud for me. I looked towards the sky, the stars shining brightly above me. their twinkling lights seeming to wink at me.

I laid back and enjoyed the silence, dreading the morning and the people that would most likely come with it.

for now it was just me and the stars, and that's the way I liked it.
